Aid at Berkeley OOS

I'm an OOS student who NEEDS financial aid.

Should I even apply to Berkeley?

Bump…

UC’s are usually not generous for out of state need base financial aid, or any financial aid for out of staters. All the UC’s have a financial aid estimator, your likely to depend largely on loans or other outside scholarships.

<a href=“Estimate your aid | UC Admissions”>http://calculator.berkeley.edu/

No…

^^ What she said.

If you REALLY want to go to a UC OOS and need FA, you’d have to do something like ROTC.

But of course it is not a complete “traditional” scholarship, you have to pay it back with a service commitment. But if you don’t mind giving a few years in the Army/Navy/Marine/Air Force, then it wouldn’t be such a bad choice. Plus military service looks pretty good to employers so that could help down the road. Or the military could be your career.

But if you don’t want the military at all, forget about ROTC and you might want to take UCB off your list.

No. Most if not all OOS and international students at Berkeley are rich. Most international students at Berkeley are very, very rich in their respective home countries. Don’t go to Berkeley if you’re OOS or international and you’re family doesn’t have much money to spare for your education. Apply to private schools instead. Many private schools are generous with aid and scholarship grants.
