Aid

I got deferred from Brown my first choice but I am torn between applying ED II to Middlebury or waiting it out for Brown. So my decisions comes down to the aid offered. So my question is which school offers the best aid

Ivy League aid will always top LAC aid.

Don't be too sure of that. LACs are reeking with money, and no ivies give merit aid. I don't know if Midd does, but look into it. If it doesn't, then yeah, Brown probably gives just as good aid. Maybe better. Brown's rep for fin aid is not the best. But I got more than I expected, so who knows.

i didn't get anything :(

You sure you checked the box?

I basically got 90% off.

starting this year Brown probably will have the best aid anywhere, next to maybe Harvard and Princeton (although this is debatable and for many students, Brown will still be better)
Not only is there a need-blind commitment, but there is a commitment to pay for every admitted student to attend. As a result of the $100 million Sidney Frank gift, the neediest students will have there loans completely covered.

I got $1000. I expected nothing. So not too shabby.

the aid you guys are talking about doesn't apply to international students, does it?

No, it doesn't. That's a good point. Although you will be admitted on a need-blind basis no matter what, the amount of aid money (though respectable), is considerably less for internationals. Same deal for transfers at the moment, although people are working hard to change that policy.

Princeton will probably always be the best. Just because of the loan factor. I would do middlebury rd if I were you if fin. aid is a major factor in which school you choose

sigh no aid at all. will have to pay for college myself ...

were you in need of it at all?

I'm on my own for the most part, although my parent's income made me not qualify for aid.

yeah, i checked the box, but my dad listed some stuff on the profile that he didn't need to... we tried to correct it, but i dunno if it ever happened... oh well, i'll just apply for a bunch of scholarships.
