AIME Score?

How much weight does the AMC/AIME score play?

Will it give you a significant boost?

I did not make USAMO last year, but did get a 7 on the AIME.

Will this help me significantly? Of course, I doubt it will hurt, but do you think it will really help my chances? I'm sure I'm definitely not alone in the MIT app pool, and there will be plenty who did better.

7 is pretty darn good. I hear the average is 2-3. of course it's not as great as USAMO, but it can reinforce the idea that you have ability/passion in math. I would say that it is not something that will significantly help your application in itself.

it wont help any more than putting 100+ AMC score,

^ I disagree. it won't be a big difference, but 7 on AIME is a lot harder than 100+ on AMC...

depends really, i find a bunch of aime problems easier to do than the last section of the AMC

eehhh 7 on the AIME is DEFINITELY better than just an 100+ on AIME
I think it is more like ~130 on AIME
it will help a bit. personally i think essays matter the most after you pass the basic score cut off
definitely put it down. I got like straight 4s since freshmen year

st. aegis have you got a 7+ on AIME, because if you haven't you're in no position to say that 100+=7+

A 7 is great score on the AIME, and on AMC terms I would equate it with a 126-132....

which aime? last years aime had unusually high scores btw. the average was liek a 5 or something.

but yes a 7 is very good...

i got a 6...

Lol, I think I got like 2s or 3s on that. It'll definitely help.

Lol I only got a 4 on AIME in sophomore year and then it went downhill from then on...

I think I'm going to try to get my school to take it. Won't help because its in february and applications january but oh well...

yeah same for a bunch of olympiads, anyone know if they will/ can make application decision time?

You can send updates through early February, so anything that happens in January or early February can and will be used for your decision. RD selection begins around Valentine's Day each year, so anything that happens after that can't be used.

I heard (and felt) that the most recent AIME was easier than normal, and the AMC was harder than normal. My friends say most people got 4 or 5 on the most recent ones. (But then again, these friends of mine are way above me in Math and Science...)

Well you're compared to your peers so I don't think the scores matter too much anyways. Admissions officers probably know the distribution.

Thanks again Molly. I'll be asking people whether I can write my essay, if you see this post and ask, I'll definitely send it to you.
