i emphazied alot of my time on musical activities. so i was pretty much busy the whole year, singing in different choirs throughout the year, singing every week at church worship with the band, and starting piano at sophomore year practicing at least 2 hours a day, also performing alot at various performances, etc. u noee~
well alot of my counselor and teachers say i have a fairly well chance, not because my scores and gpa arent the best, but their fairly well -rounded, but my ECs are amazing. well any other perspectives? btw im a junior going to senior. i put 4 years for some of my ECs because i know i will be doing those activities next year 2.

gjwhddn..
you should go on each school's website and print their apps. Some schools have more spaces than others but each app is different. ie Harvard gives you one line to list some nonacademic honors and Stanford requests that you not send resumes or extra stuff outside of music tapes, slide...etc

Check the colleges' websites to see if submitting a demo cd of your music might be useful.

Your weak point is your class rank - unless your school is well-known to Columbia, Duke and Dartmouth, your ec's may not make up the difference unless they are looking for singers this year. If your HS keeps a list of acceptances by SAT/GPA, take a look at that to see where you stand. Just remember - the class of 2006 will have it harder, admissions-wise, than 2005. And if you are looking at the USNWR data - that is from 2003!

Apply ASAP to Michigan - if you are accepted there (and really like it), the rest of your list is top-heavy but ok. If you are not so sure of Michigan, look for another good school with a reasonable (>40%) admit rate.

I agree with seth blue that your music ecs arent amazing. But you show strong dedication and interest. Try applying to some music camps like Interlochen.

gjwhddn, I am very big into music and applied ED to Columbia and was accepted. There is a very big push in the arts at Columbia (talk to Jono and Shostakovich as well on this site for good info).

Hit me up at Teedoff101 on AIM if you want to talk about anything Columbia.
