Aiming at Great Schools.. Chances.?

bump. please

This first thing I noticed with you is that you have a hook: the artsy, musically/vocally talented, good writer type. Most of the schools that you are planning to apply to will like your hook.

Here are your detailed chances at each school:

UMich: This is a semi-safety school for you. Your crudentials far surpass those of most ppl. applying here. However, it does not seem like a good fit for you, an artsy type student.

NYU: This is a good match. You will fit in very well here and your stats will be on the upper end of the applicant pool. The admissions committe will be impressed by your SAT scores and GPA. Also there will be many musical students here like yoursef.

Duke:This is a medium reach. Your SAT scores and GPA will be towards the middle of the applicant pool. There are many students involved in the arts at Duke, but it is most renouned for its athletics. Although you may like its prestige, it may not be the best place for someone like yourself.

Dartmouth: This is another medium reach. Dartmouth is a great school, but is not necesarily a good fit for you. Students who attend Dartmouth tend to be the outdoorsy type who want to join fraternities. Academically, Dmouth has a great engish department (I'm assuming that this is your prospective major). However, it is not a good overall fit for you. Your chances of being accepted here will be similiar to Duke.

Columbia:This is a high (HIGH) reach for you. However, it is a perfect fit! Many students here will be like you and will have hooks similar to yours. The admissions committee will probobly realize that you would bring a lot to the campus in regard to the arts. Their journalism program is arguably the best in the nation! I wish you the best of luck at Columbia and you should enhance your chances of being accepted by applying early decision. This is the one for you.

I'm sorry but I must tell you this... you do have a hook but it is very common and may not set you apart from other competive applicants.
The determining element regarding your acceptance to these elite schools are going to be your essays. Make sure that they're great!!

hahaha i thot u mich waould match me. because it has a awesome music program dat i would take part of during my 4 years of college.
ivywise. i really thank you for your perspectives on my chances but where did you assume from my information that I would be a journalism major? Cause I wasnt planning to pursue those kind of majors ya noe? :P hahaha. but really, im stuck b/w two majors right now. socialogy or music .(prolly recorded music. you know ppl behind the music scenes and working in the music industry. even though the music industry is currently dying out profusely due to music downloads on the internet. ) recorded music major would probably get me a decent job in the ny scenes and decent pay. but i dunno about sociology. wut kinds of jobs are there for sociology majors?

neways. any other feed back or other colleges that i might be able to have a pretty good chance at?

gjwhddn, as a musician myself, i advise you to double major, that is if you you are truly passionate about music and are willing to devote the time to it. audition for julliard and apply to columbia. If you make it into both, i guarantee you'll live a fulfilling college life.

UMichigan has an outstanding school of music. A friend of my S's turned down Julliard for UM.

any other feedback.?
