Hello there! I’m approximately three quarters of the way through my sophomore year of high school, and I’ve just recently began my college research.This was mostly due to some unfortunate circumstances; I neglected my schoolwork freshman year and ended up with a 2.0 GPA. I took honor’s courses last year, but in response to my poor grades my parents required I take only college prep classes this year, and managed to consistently keep straight A’s and end the first semester with a 4.0 and exemplary final exam grades. I plan on maintaining straight A’s throughout high school and taking several AP and Honor’s courses.
Here are my planned schedules for the next two years.
-11th grade schedule;
AP US History
AP Art History
AP or Honor’s English
Honor’s Spanish 3
Honor’s Chemistry
CP Algebra II (math is not my strong suit)
-12th grade schedule;
AP Gov/Honor’s Econ
AP English
AP Psychology
AP Spanish
PE
Honor’s Statistics
My other issue is that I’ve also neglected clubs and other extracurricular activities; I currently play piano, and next year will be a member of the Varsity Academic League (similar to quiz bowl?), and participating in the travel and clean water clubs. But will the fact that I’ll only have participated during my last two years of high school affect my chances of admissions negatively?
I’ve calculated my UC GPA from my Sophomore and Junior course load, and it should be a 4.2
I’m set on going to a UC, with my highest goal being UC Berkeley, and I’m also looking at UCLA and UCSB.
I will be taking my PSAT this fall, and the SATs the coming spring, and I’ve began studying daily. (I’m aiming for between a 1530-1600 on the new SAT)
What do you all think my chances are of admission to my top choice schools?
(Sorry for lengthy post)
