Air conditioning Boston college dorms?

Question. Our S suffers from severe allergies (allergy shots, plus rx to control). Pollen is pretty much a trigger for his asthma. I’m told BC says just stick a fan in your room with the window open in the warmer months. Can you use an ac unit in the dorms? Thanks!

I would talk to the disabilities office. You really might get some help or pointed in the right direction.

The new junior and senior housing suites has ac. Sophomore suites in vandy and another have ac. Not sure about Walsh.

None of the freshman with my d on upper campus this year had ac. And it was tough for the first couple of weeks.

No idea about newton

But each major dorm has a resident Jesuit on site. I can’t imagine they don’t have ac for them. But I really don’t know.

As far as I know, there are no Freshman dorms with AC. The first couple of months can be brutal even with a fan. I would suggest getting the round industrial fans rather than the tall fans. After the first couple of months, he will be fine.

I know of a student (another school) who was able to provide medical information that allowed him to install his own A/C window unit. August - late October in the northeast were unbelievably hot this past year. This meant windows were open in dorms without A./C. I think it’s worth looking into A/C for your son.

Thanks! I sent the paperwork to the disability office. Hopefully we will learn more during orientation!

There is no built in AC in any of the freshman dorms. You can talk to disability services/student services and get a unit put in, but there are no buildings on Upper or Newton campus that have AC for freshmen. Some sophomore junior dorms have AC, such as Vanderslice and 90, the buildings on College Road do not have AC, and neither does Walsh.

How about bring an Air Filter with HEPA filter.
