Does anyone know if Cumberland has air-conditioning?

Cumberland has A/C window units.

alright thanks :)

i was told that denton doesn’t have a/c but i heard a rumor that a/c was being installed into all the dorms this summer…

From what I heard 70% of the dorms have AC.

That sounds a lot better after touring Penn State’s campus and seeing hundreds of window fans :P

I remember seeing in the construction info that Denton (and all those dorms around there) are having a/c installed within the next two years.

is the AC in Denton thing just a rumor or fact?

Because that would certainly make Maryland more attractive for a prospective Honors student.

The chilled-water mentioned in this article will provide AC to six existing dorms within the next two years (according to a Resident Life newsletter DD received in the mail over the summer):

Thanks Terp80, but how exactly does chilled-water lead to AC?

I was a business and Comp Sci major – so I have no idea. But that’s what the newsletter said.

Air-conditioning in North Campus Residence halls

The construction of Oakland Hall will bring to North Campus the necessary infrastructure to provide air-conditioning to six North Campus residence halls. This will be a multi-year project scheduled to take place over nearly a decade. For a short period of this fall near Easton Hall, you will see crews installing underground piping that will carry chilled water from mechanical equipment in Oakland Hall to Denton Community buildings. The remainder of this piping work is scheduled for next summer. Denton Hall will be the first of the current North Campus residence halls to receive air conditioning by the Fall of 2011.

I’m at D2’s desk in Centreville (while she’s at a floor meeting). With two fans blowing on me, (one being about 12" from my face), it’s not that bad. Last night when we moved her in, I was “glistening” profusely (i.e. ladies don’t perspire, they glisten!!!). I’ve got a feeling she may be hanging out at D1’s A/C apartment a lot for the first couple of weeks of school!

I doubt that! I think it is more accentuated because there are more bodies in the building since all of the parents are there.

I thought about you and hope you went 66 or 50! 95 N was looking horrendous when I went southbound. Also the funniest thing was as I was on 495 S I saw a minivan with a Terp stick and NC plates, and thought ooh that might be Astro…it was a guy so I knew it wasn’t!

I was impressed with UMD for new leonardtown they have digital thermostats, large fridge and new stove! The apt/dorm was cool and set at 78, but it is very shady—no direct sunlight. The frightening thing was the triple had 1 closet, It is a flex room. I wonder if the 7th (freshmen) understands that in Dec if they don’t want him, he is kicked out! The guys were good and said we have it covered. I hope he realizes that unless they love him he will be gone. Unfortunately, he took a mis-step and asked who parties? Not in the frat party, margarita way. 4 of the 6 are merit/scholarship/interns, all of them are scholars.

Haha, I stayed clear of 95 N, thankfully. The GPS took me some really bizarre way (by Nationals park and RFK), before it got me off the highway and in some rather colorful neighborhoods. (I think the GPS has a “random route generator” when it comes to navigating us around/through DC…I swear, we never took this route before, but at least the cars were moving, albeit slowly!!!

a note on the lack of a/c…D2 had a bag of chocolates on the dresser when we left last night. They were VERY melty when we got here this afternoon! Needless to say, they are all in the refrigerator now (who needs ice cubes when you’ve got chocolate!!!)

You probably went 50 to 193, if the colorful neighborhoods had signs that reminded you of the South of the Border, than, what you need to do to miss the lights is go out rte 1 (front campus) and override your system, or come out the back way, by the Marriot, Cole and Byrd. Go straight through the light, at the 2nd light (I think) turn right and stay in the rt lane and go 495S, which will take you to 66 or 50. See you soon which reminds me to find tickets for homecoming. DS was funny, he asked 2 questions, 1, will there be other kids, and 2, are you going to have food?
