air conditioning vs no air conditioning

I am deciding whether or not i should pick a room with or w/o air conditioning. For those of you who have experience summer at the IU campus, what do you guys think? Do you think I can survive with a fan or portable air conditioner? Thanks.

Pretty sure the survival rate is 100% over recent years. Whether it’s comfortable or not is up to you. It could be 95-100, or you may not have many days over 90. I would have hated not have ac.

On the other hand, the window air conditioning works just as well. So if you can get one of those (they aren’t provided), i’d say it’s a wash.

I thought a window AC requires a medical form, and there’s an extra charge of some kind. Still…

It’s really not that bad during the day at all as long as you have fans. I am staying in Wright, and I was fine for the most part. It can be a little tough to sleep if you are on the top though because you can’t really have a fan blowing on you. I would just take the bottom bed and you’ll be fine.

You want AC unless you regularly enjoy sleep in 85 degree weather with 85% humidity or hate AC. You will have a few days of these conditions in both Fall and late Spring while in Bloomington. It sucks to move in to a new room as a Freshman and then not be able to get good sleep. You’ll have enough on your mind those first few weeks.

Window units in dorms with no AC do require a medical reason/note and also cost extra.

Fans help but do not remove humidity. Even with AC, I still use my fan just about year 'round just to keep the air moving.

Sure, you’ll survive either way, but why choose to be uncomfortable?

Thanks guys!
