Hi!
I’m not terribly familiar with CC, so I’m sorry if this is in completely the wrong place!
I’m going to be an exchange student at the college this coming year, and I’ve been assigned a room in Barrett Hall. I was wondering if anyone knew if Barrett has air conditioning in the rooms, as otherwise, I will need to get a few fans…
Thank you so much for your help
Yes! As of next year all the upperclassmen dorms have air conditioning. Barrett also happens to be one of my personal favorite dorms because it has a hotel-like lobby and a sweet porch with rocking chairs outside.
So the freshman dorms do NOT have AC?
@prodesse Yates and Jefferson (EDIT: and Reves apparently, but I’ve never actually heard of someone living there lol) are the only freshman dorms with AC all throughout, but there are some that have AC in the lounges, etc. but not the individual rooms. You can find more information on each specific hall here: http://www.wm.edu/offices/residencelife/oncampus/residencehalls/freshman/index.php
Yes, I’ve seen that online information, but it’s rather cagey, isn’t it?! If a dorm is not air conditioned, I would expect there to be a gigantic notice blinking in red, “Danger! This dorm is not air conditioned!” It’s especially galling that apparently the dorm for the Monroe scholars, who are the top students W&M is presumably trying to woo to come there instead of going to a different college that actually does put air conditioning in its dormitories, is one of the non-air conditioned ones. (I was scarred as a college freshman by living in a non-air conditioned dorm. I do not want my children to suffer such a fate.)
@prodesse It could be worse - USC doesn’t have ANY air conditioned freshman dorms (not sure about the suites)… good thing I didn’t go there, hah
I know it’s not quite the same, but you can always request to bring in a window unit!
