Are any of the dorm buildings air conditioned? If yes, which ones?

I think Mojo is. That is the extent of my knowledge.

If you have asthma or some sort of a respiratory condition you can get a letter from a doctor and have a window unit installed, but then you won’t be able to open your window. I chose to be able to open my window instead. I didn’t have a problem with heat last year living on 4th floor EQ. We froze in the winter, though.

northwood maybe?
I have requested for air conditioning in April cuz I have rhinitis. Is it installed before I come for orientation? How does it prevent you from opening the window?

^
lol
It’s a window unit.

Window unit?

It’s a big metal box that is installed into your window. It’s a type of air conditioning, it’s not central air. That keeps the window from being opened. I am not 100% sure whether or not it is installed before orientation, housing can tell you for sure. I would expect so but I am just not sure since I opted not to get one. I

has anyone had the experience of living with his window closed for an entire year?? sounds terrifying…has anyone actually tried that? or there’re two windows or something that you can at least breathe in your dorm

^
lol I hope that isn’t a serious question.

I don’t think there are usually two windows unless you live in a suite or a corner room. I lived in a corner and had two.

You can leave the door open and get some air circulation moving, the window is closed most of the year anyway because it’s freezing. As long as you keep your room clean so it doesn’t stink and need serious airing out you ought to be fine.

do I have the choice to remove it after one semester if I’m not used to it?

There is really no need for air conditioning. It is only really hot at the beginning of the semester for maybe a week or two at most. Even if it gets really hot during the day during the fall it cools down a lot a night. We are in school most of the time that it is cold. It starts warming up around finals in April, but we leave by the time it gets really hot.

For people that have health issues, that week can pose a SERIOUS problem. I had to live without AC for a day once and ended up in the ER. But last year the temp in my dorm turned out to be very cool regardless of the weather so it was alright.

sooldmoon, I am not sure, you’d have to check with housing. But if they did, I am sure you would have to pay to have it uninstalled, then potentially pay to have it installed again when it gets hot in the spring, and then uninstalled again for move out. That would run you a small fortune. It’s not a guarantee it will be hot for long in the Spring, but we had some sweltering days in early April this year.
