Air Travel out of Wash U

I'm trying to book a flight for my d on a Friday - her last class ends at 2 -- does anybody have any actual experience with how long it takes to get to the airport, leaving straight from class ? I'm trying to determine what flight to book.

By cab it should only take a half hour, at best.

I think you mean at worst. I would say more like 20 minutes.

yeah, by cab about 20 minutes. the metro will also get you there, but i would allow much more time for that. i have never done the metro myself, but i have heard that you should allow about 1 hour to get to the airport.

We have taken the metrolink several times when we come to campus to go to one of D's concerts or something. We do allow an hour from leaving campus to getting to the airport. It doesn't take that long, but want to be safe.

D takes a cab when she goes to the airport (if there aren't any friends riding the metrolink at that time) and she allows an hour, although again, it doesn't take that long. You never know what kind of traffic you might encounter in St. Louis. Cabs times are dependent on what the traffic is doing - the metrolink is not.

the Metro Link is super convenient, mainly because it's free for WU students and it's direct. there are two stops on either end of campus. the Metro line is shaped like the letter Y... Wash U is on one end, and the airport is at the other end. She'll get on the Metro at one of the Wash U campups stops, get off at the intersection point, then head down the other end of the Y to the airport.

it shouldn't take more than 35 minutes from the time you get on the Metrolink to the time you get off at the airport. if she is leaving for a popular holiday, like Thanksgiving or Winter Break, WU operates shuttles (the one for thanksgiving is appropriately called the turkey shuttle) that go directly from campus to the airport that a lot of students take advantage of. i think they used to be free, but i think they charged like $5 or $10 last year.

When I left last year after parent weekend, the airport was jammed. There was a really, really long wait to get through security. The people working there were saying, "We don't know what's going on. It's never this busy". So just a cautionary word. I don't think the airport is tuned in to the Wash U calendar so if it's a day where many Wash U kids may be travelling, leave extra time for the airport.

Thanks for all the info !!

Security lines are never that bad, don't worry about that, but take your time because there is a long walk until you reach your gate.

I took the metro... I had never been to St Louis before, and I'm in high school. No parents, no help, and I managed to get myself from WUSTL to the gate in like 45 minutes I believe... maybe shorter but not for sure. It's extremely easy...
