With the two airport runways being right beside the campus how bad is the constant takeoff and landing noise? Maybe you get used to it after a few weeks but it looks like it could get old since it may be going on all day long.

What kind of agricultural crops are grown on the other side of Hwy 1 ? It looks like many large orchards from the maps

The activity is much lower than at larger airports, but still fairly regular. SBA has voluntary noise mitigation procedures, so flights don’t cross over campus and rarely occur late evening or early morning. Haven’t noticed plane noise on visits to campus, but perhaps some students will comment on it.

it’s not loud. there’s like 10 commercial flights a day at most. you hear a lot of buzzing from private planes, but not a lot of jet noise since the airliners land on a runway parallel to the university.

there’s no hwy 1 in santa barbara/goleta. it’s concurrent with hwy 101. there are no crops along hwy 101. on cathedral oaks/foothill road, there’s a lot of orchards and the like.
