Which main airport is the closest, and how far away is it? Are there shuttles offered to and from for each holiday? 3 day weekend? Do dorms stay open for 3 day weekends? Thanks.

Northeastmom,I’d be interested in knowing as well if there are shuttle services to Syracuse so my son could take Amtrak, so if you learn anything, please let me know.

By necessity, you’ll learn before I do! At the info session they did mention something about shuttles at breaks, but did not discuss it further. How far is Syracuse from Hobart? Thanks.

Northeastmom, according to Mapquest, it’s basically 53 miles and an hour’s drive to Syracuse; Rochester is 45 miles and 51 minutes. That travel is to the cities, not to the airports; I don’t know where the airports are situated, but Mapquest could help you with that. For the airports, I’d take a look at which provides the better flight scheduling for you because I’ll bet if shuttles go to one, they go to both.

Thank you Carolyn. My son could also take Amtrak. Funny, I only thought about it in terms of flying. I am not going to even worry about it right now. If you learn more about getting to and from airports or Amtrak please post. I’d appreciate it.

If anyone else knows anything about shuttles and other transit to the airports or Amtrak, please post as well.

HWS offers shuttles to and from Rochester airport during October, November, December, and March breaks. The cost is usually $25 one way and is billed to your student account.

gvol, thank you! About how far is Rochester airport from HWS? Can you get alternative transportation easily to the airport if needed on an off weekend or if your flight is delayed (ie: cab, car service)?

It’s about an hour or so. There are limo companies that go between campus and the airport - the school usually sends out a list before breaks.

gvol21, thanks for the information!

I’m going to be a senior in high school this fall, and I have been doing research on schools and stuff. I really like HWS but I do have transportation questions. For those who have visited or for those who go there, did you take a cab or call a car service? Bus? I’m from out of state so I’ll be flying in either to Rochester or Syracuse.

Waferthin, sorry to take so long to respond, but I’d suggest you call the Admission Office. I imagine they’ll have that kind of information if you’re interested in visiting the school during the school year as a prospective student. Otherwise, when there are specific school breaks, it sounds like the school gets the ball rolling for students to sign up for limo services.

thanks. I will call admissions. HWS is really a good fit for me.
