Alabama vs Baylor?

Looking for a safety school financially, but with as good of an education and Pre-Med prep as possible.

Junior

Homeschooled since 7th grade

Current ACT 33, (33M, 34E, 35R, 30S) but will take again in April when juniors normally take it.
212 PSAT which is just commended in my state. Do not plan on taking the SAT.

Self-studying AP Stats and hope to find a place to take the test this spring (local school doesn't offer it).

Will take Bio and Chem SAT 2 in June. Expect high scores on both.

Two community college classes (Microbio 201 and Effective Speaking). High A's in both and can get good LOR's from both profs.

Plan to take an EMT course this summer.

Average EC's, probably above average for my area, but average from what I've read on here.

Looking for a financial safety and both Baylor and Alabama came up, but we're too far away to visit either this year. Which of the two would be better to choose?

Pitt is already high on my list, but I'm in state, so I don't know if I'll get their top awards and free tuition is pretty much a must right now. My Dad's job is very low right now and my older brother is already in college. My younger brother is two years behind me. Plus, I want to go to med school.

Alabama and Baylor are equally ranked…actually tied.

Both schools are very good for pre-med.

My son is pre-med at Bama and loves it. Bama has a brand new mega-sized Science and Engineering Complex. New labs, new classrooms, state of the art equipment. Truly amazing.

Bama has a gorgeous campus and an amazing honors college.

I don’t know what your major is, but you might consider applying to the Computer-Based Honors Program. The name is a bit confusing…it’s not a computer science honors program…it’s a research honors program. Very good for pre-med students.

I will PM a video to you. I can’t post the link here because it’s on youtube.

I think you should retest the ACT AND take the SAT…and this is why. Your ACT 33 is very good, but you could better your chances at your top schools with higher scores.

Also, right now, you have free tuition at Bama…BUT…if you were to improve your scores, you would increase your chances for one of their top competitive scholarships - which include housing and other goodies.

I don’t think Baylor will give you 100% tuition unless you’re NMF.

Sounds like Pitt or Alabama are the better financial options, unless Baylor awards you 100% tuition out of scholarship committee.

Thanks. I think I’m going to apply early next fall to Pitt to see where I stand with them. If I’m lucky, I might not even need to apply anywhere else.

Since you want to go to med school and money is an issue, it really is best to spend/borrow as little as possible for undergrad.

Do arrange to retest the ACT and take the SAT.

Would you be able to visit Bama? If so, schedule a campus tour and then let me know and I’ll tell you who to contact to arrange the rest of your visit.

What will your major be?
