Alcohol at brown?

ive heard and read a few blogs that says that the alcohol scene in brown is quite strict. bars have been shut down in providence for giving alcohol to those under 21…
is that true?

i know Brown is an esteemed academic institution, but i just wanted to get a sense of what the party scene and nightlife is like, for a student in brown?

You must be referring to fish co, which rumor has it was shut down because it was incredibly loose with IDs. There are still several bars near campus that serve to minors with fakes, and lots of clubs further away are 18+. On campus, the frats serve to anyone and everyone, and there is one liquor store on campus and another within walking distance.

I pretty much never had a night where I wanted to drink but couldn’t find something going on.

Brown is one of the least strict places ever. Off campus clubs/bars have their own rules (most are fairly relaxed), but you can always just stay on campus to have fun (most people do).

Check out the end of page 22 and the beginning of page 23 of this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/1070541-current-brown-students-taking-questions-22.html?highlight=alcohol

Long story short: There are no authority figures in Brown’s dorms, and you are generally free to drink responsibly on Brown’s campus. The result is an open and healthy environment for everyone.

You usually stay on campus for the drinking – almost everyone knows someone with a fake, and that’s how pregames happen. I know a few people who used their fakes to go to the bars around campus (apart from Fishco), but it’s honestly more economical to buy your own booze and mixers and have a dorm party :p.

You need to TRY to get in trouble at Brown…

^ A couple of weekends in Keeney will definitely show people that.

^In that people don’t get in trouble, or in that people actually seem to try (and succeed)?

:P

Let’s just say that broken exit signs tempt trouble, but I only know of one vandal who was run down by an extremely committed RC ;)
