Does anyone else feel as if they are the only one in their school who does not smoke pot or drink? Cause I sure as hell do.

All my friends have at least drunk. One has smoked pot (and liked it) and another (a hardcore Muslim who would kick his child out of his house if he was gay) has sold drugs (he says it doesn't violate the statutes of his religion because he's in fact helping himself by earning money). I never have. I have nothing against it (except when they drink beer to pull all-nighters or brag about how they drink because they're bored). I've just never felt like I need to imbibe potentially poisonous substances to have a good time. I'm quite comfortable with my personality, thank you.

Ahh way too many paranthesis.

All of my friends smoke and drink and I always feel alienated because they are all hardcore into drinking/smoking/partying and it's creating a divide between us.

aww . . way to persist peer pressure, pal =)
you will go far in life

Maybe I haven't gone out enough. I don't really have any personal friends that deal with drinking/smoking. Maybe some classmates, but it's not like I hang out with them, so I can't be sure. You should go order a few Spady cards. I did that last week and they came in the mail yesterday. They might not be of much help, but you never know.

No, I don't, although there are plenty that do so. I won't be ever doing pot given my lung conditions, but isolated drinking I will undertake in college. I happen to like alcohol at various times during the year.

"he says it doesn't violate the statutes of his religion because he's in fact helping himself by earning money"

NOW THERES A BUSINESS MAN AT HEART!!! sadly, I don't think that mentioning that would help him get into an MBA program, even though he does seem willing to take risks to get what he wants. (ambitious)

I like it when people do away with religion in the real world and use reason; I dislike religion in things that are supposed to be secular. I also dislike government sanctioned religion as well.

well, none of my friends pressure me into smoking/drinking. But, it's definitely ALL they talk about. They actually do not understand how I can have fun without smoking/drinking...I kind of feel sorry for them in that regard.

And they think it's crazy that I plan on never drinking or smoking in my life.

Like selling illegal drugs? I was questioning his ability to stand by his own principles (I figured his principles would be aligned with his religion in this case, as they seem to be in every other way) when someone's offering money. I guess his religion only applies when he benefits. It figures because he's into politics and acts like a politician in all ways (aka he's a douche - girls never want to go out with him and his utter cockiness/pride stands in the way of him having any real friends even when they make a sincere effort).

I can't wait to tell the public he sold drugs and uses derogatory terms if he ever runs for office.

As you can probably tell, I'm not very fond of him. At all. And most other people aren't either.

Well, thats a form of peer pressure actually . . . it's all they talk about, and so you may want to "try" it to feel "accepted" . . peer pressure can be really subtle too.

Oh, well the way the talk about alcohol and pot all the time just reassures me that I want nothing to do with smoking/drinking, not now, not ever. I don't a substance to control my life

The way they talk about it? lol, most kids brag about doing stuff like that like "zomg me and ronnie got high last night and totally got laid dude"

They don't really brag about smoking/drinking, they've moved past that. But it's all they do. They honestly don't understand what to do for fun besides getting drunk or high. It's rather pathetic if you ask me.

There are a lot of people in my school who drink/do drugs, and are very public about it. However, I'm the president of a service organization in which everyone takes an oath to be substance-free, and we actually have to turn away a lot of people who apply just because of the sheer number of applicants. I think the people who do drugs/drink are just more obvious about it. Looking at the "Drink/Smoke?" question on a lot of people's MySpaces, I was surprised to see how many people said "No/No" that I never thought would...

Maybe because they want to show it in a place where they will be cool but not to the whole world, which may condemn them. MySpace is far more public than a group of friends at a local school.

I've never been drunk. Or high. I don't need it-- I can act like an oddball on my own.

^Me too =\ . . . is that necessarily good though?

MMM.... yes.

We can snap out of it (if needbe) and act normal-ish

and then back to being ourselves.
