No, I don't need to hear the "why on earth did you apply to Tulane?" speech, thanks. I know it's a great school, and that's why I'm going there (not to mention all the scholarships and aid I received).

I am just wondering if there is anything to do for people who don't like to get drunk every night and party constantly. Now, I'm not a fun-hater or anything, and I have nothing against the people who like this kind of thing, I just don't like to drink or go to wild parties. It just seems from everything I'm reading that's all anyone ever does, and I'm worried that I will always feel extremely out of place. Also, do the parties tend to take place mostly outside of individual rooms? Because I don't really have a problem with avoiding all the partying by staying in my room.

dude ur gonna be in new orleans. yes, of course there is gonna be a lot of partying goin on, but im sure ull find plenty of people who share a similar mindset to that of urself, and you and ur friends can have a good time getting wut you want out of the city. my only bit of advice would be to keep whatever feelings you have about partying to yourself-no1 likes to be "lectured", and you dont want to alienate urself from the "party animals" that you could end up having a good time chilling w/ (when they r sober of course lol). btw, i dunno if its too late, but you should apply for the patterson (non substance) housing. gl and see ya down there bro/girl

I am just a clueless parent ;), leteure~, but it is my observation that there are students at Tulane who don't "get drunk and party constantly." I believe there's a sub-free dorm, isn't there? But beyond that, I know that the kids in the Honors Dorm balance out fun with studying, because they do want to perform well academically. While there is probably a variety of levels of drinking among students in that dorm (and others), there are those who find ways to have fun beyond drunkfests.

You will find your people and be fine; and you won't have to stay in your room to feel comfortable.

Thanks for your help everyone! :) I'm sure that I'll be able to find some people who like my kind of fun, but I was just really stressing about it when I posted that.

Oh, and I've been put into monroe, as I didn't know about Patterson when I filled out the housing form (I wish I did... I do remember specifying that I wanted substance free living on the form, but apparently that didn't matter)... and I assume that I really can't get out of that, since I've already been assigned a roommate and everything.

Oh, and I don't lecture people, I just don't like to be around that stuff. I could care less what other people are doing as long as they are leaving me out of it.

Unfortunetly some of us are there soley because of the amount of money we recieve to go to the school. Without that, it's back to state uni for us. Thus it is in our best interest to balance it out.

Yeah, that was one of the main deciding factors of my going to Tulane... I got a good scholarship and aid, so I can actually afford it. But I really want to focus mainly on my schoolwork, so I don't want to take a lot of time out for partying anyway (that is, if I enjoyed parties) :)

Mo (Monroe) typically does have its good number of party animals that are out every night of the week but no one is going to push you to do it too. Chances are you will love Mo. If it really does bother you then you can submit a room change request starting Sept. 15th (I think that's the date, it's something like that, check HRL's website). A lot of Tulane kids (like me and all my friends) do not go out every night of the week, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. PS Patterson kids do it too, don't let it fool you.

I lived in Butler, and I know at least one person who moved in there with us from Mo, but I think it was more issues with his roommate that anything else. You'll love Tulane regardless, don't you worry.

If you want "alcohol free" living, free from the pressures of partying all night every night, then try really hard to get into the honors program. I'm in the supposed "substance free" living (paterson), which is hardly the case; I have to say, though, that most people here are pretty intelligent in making their decisions to go out. The opportunity to party is always there, but many, many people opt to stay in and study (even on thursday-saturday nights). I've personally found the right mix, and you will too if you come here; It's a really really great school!
