just a quick question.. i found out that there r no ACs in the dorms, and the climate is humid.. is it gonna be THAT bad? ..cos i live in Cyprus where its really hot and humid, and we wudnt have survived if there was no cooling of air.
so shall i get one of those portable ACs?

You can't install an AC unless there's a medical reason, but if you're in Woody or Cauthen there's air conditioning. There's also air conditioning in the study lounge of Webb. It's only really bad for the first week or so, and that's only when you're sleeping. If you really want you could bring a fan, but I survived alright without one.

on a side note, brown has ac, and i was sure i wouldnt need a fan, and for the 1st half of the yr i was right. but in march when it was 70 they refused to turn on the ac, and we had to wait through a month of torture (i was sure they would end up not even bothering to turn it on!) and nights were the worst. im sensitive to temperature but all my friends in old/new dorms were complaining about it too. so i will be bringing a fan this yr. or buying one when i get down there and they go on sale since i dont need it right away.

get one of those large box fans and you'll survive the first 2 or so weeks. after that it cools down. I doubt you'll need AC in the spring semester because it doesn't get too bad even in april/may.

wow hazelorb if 70 bothers you, how do you stand the summertime?

i only get bothered when i sleep. in the winter i always had my heater off bc it would get hotter than i liked even with only my roommate's heater on. i was constantly opening the window, even when it was rainy or snowing haha. so the same goes for the summer when there is no circulation. i like it freezing cold when i sleep and i can just have a blanket. when its hot theres only so much you can do.

I agree, I hate my room being hot when I sleep (yay lambeth AC!). The worst thing ever is waking up, covered in sweat, feeling totally gross and tired. I'd rather it be freezing and wrap myself in my sheets/comforter than it be hot and sleep naked. Last year during the winter I always kept our window wide open at night, even if it was 30 degrees out.

Stop whining. It marks the passage into college. Makes you a better person.

PS- bed bath and beyond/costco (atleast last year) had these awesome fans that circulate air and have two fans with one that you can set as intake and the other exhaust. Did a super job of keeping my room freezing or toasty. I highly suggest it. If it doesn't work, come hunt me down in Lambeth
