So I'm an incoming business student who just took Calculus AB and am pretty sure I got at least a 4... What course should I try and place into? Judging from the course descriptions, I think Math 115 is Precal, but I'm not quite sure what the difference is among Math 220, 221, and 234. 234 is Calculus for Business I, so does that mean direct applications of Calculus in Business, meaning this is the most advanced course and the one I should strive for? I guess what confused me is that the course description for Math 234 sounded really basic: "Introduction to the concept of functions and the basic ideas of the calculus. Credit is not given for both MATH 234 and either MATH 220 or MATH 221. Prerequisite: MATH 012 and an adequate ALEKS score." It sounds kind of like the beginning of Calculus AB.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

You must take the ALEKS test regardless of what math you have. A 4 in Calculus AB means you can get credit (5 hours) for Calculus 220 which is beginning calculus (the AB half) designed for those that have never had calculus in high school. Calculus 221 is beginning calculus for those who have previously had calculus in high school but either do not have AP credit or choose not to accept the AP credit. If you take the AP credit, your first calculus course at UIUC would be 231. Calculus for Business is actually a somewhat easier calculus course than 220 and, if you are in the business college, you can replace the 234 course with credit in 220, i.e., you don’t have to take 234 if you get a 4 or 5 in Calculus AB. However, you still need Math 125 unless you take 231.
