I am an incoming freshman and I am currently taking a M408K at my local CC. I plan on taking the M408L at UT in the fall. Do I still need to take the ALEKS Test? I will be a McCombs student if that matters.

From the McCombs freshman website link:[ALEKS - Info for New Freshmen - BBA | McCombs School of Business | The University of Texas at Austin](http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/BBA/Advising/New/Freshman/Aleks.aspx)

If you have CC credit for Math 408K, or its equivalent, you will satisfy the prerequisite for M408L. Thus, you do not have to take the ALEKS math test. BTW, you can check prerequisites for courses on the Fall 2012 course schedule by clicking on a particular course. In your example, M 408K.

which I have shared before in response to a previous query of yours, has a great deal of useful information.

Also, be forewarned that M408L is a bear for those who did not take M408K at UT. Even then, it is difficult. I would suggest taking M408L this summer at CC.

Thanks again txex you are so helpful! Is there any other alternative that I should be aware of? I will be unable to take it this summer because of previous arrangements. Is it possible to prepare myself for it by self studying, do you think that would make it easier? I was reading something about being able to do a CLEP…do you mind explaining this to me? Thank you so much, again.

Enticing, there is no CLEP test for M408L credit, only for M408K. See the link below:

Since you can’t take it at CC, I suggest looking over your notes this summer from M2413. But, there may be a gap in what was taught in that course and what UT math profs expect you to know for M408L. You could also look into taking M408L, its CC equivalent is M2414, at Austin CC your fall semester.
