<p>In the first 2 incidents, the victims were alone. But the last incident, the victim was with 2 persons(not sure male or female), so even with friends that did not help the victim.</p>

<p>Frost was stabbed Thursday morning during an altercation with a man outside an apartment complex near 28th Street and Orchard Avenue. Police obtained a search warrant for an apartment in the complex, but DPS officials said neither the man they arrested nor the woman in questioning lives there. </p>

<p>That was something I wanted to ask LAPD but didn't have time: were the 2 friends there for the whole thing or did they run for help halfway? I would've expected more information with that many witnesses.</p>

<p>I think this could also have a deterrent effect on crime, because it will be known that a shuttle periodically stops and those with bad intentions may not be quite sure if the bus is just about to turn the corner, come into view and head their way. It's an excellent idea.</p>

<p>One idea that might be helpful is just as we know about "designated drivers," perhaps there could be people designated at parties not to be drinking and to keep a watch on how people are getting home and help get them rides. I don't know how effective this would be, if people who are drinking don't want to cooperate, but this is a concept that could possibly be "sold" under the idea of "Trojan Family" -- looking out for each other. Perhaps there are ways to expand on and improve this suggestion so that it would be workable.</p>

<p>If the victims left the fraternity houses drunk (I don't know if they came from frat parties or elsewhere), then maybe USC could hire kids to watch the doors of the frat parties to make sure no one leaves drunk (I also don't know if this is being done now anyways). I am just concerned about students walking under the influence of alcohol. Not a good situation.</p>

<p>Also Pomona College has these security alert boxes for students to pull down when they need help, maybe USC can do something like that when a student does not feel safe and want to get the attention of a DPS officer.</p>

Frost, 23, who was a student in the School of Cinematic Arts, was transported to California Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. </p>

<p>Police later obtained a search warrant for an apartment in the complex. DPS officials said Ford does not live at that residence.</p>

<p>Undergraduate Student Government sponsored an emergency town hall meeting on safety in Bovard Auditorium Wednesday evening. USG called for the meeting in light of the killing and a pair of sexual assaults earlier this month outside of university-owned, off-campus housing.</p>

<p>The meeting, which featured a panel of representatives from LAPD, DPS, TrojanTransportation and Student Affairs, served as an open forum where students were encouraged to voice their safety concerns. Smith announced to the USC community that a suspect had been arrested in correlation to the stabbing at the meeting.</p>

<p>USC officials also revealed a new plan to supplement Campus Cruiser, which will use a taxi cab service that will take discretionary funds as a form of payment.</p>

<p>Several years ago when I was attending Ohio State we had a serial criminal on our hands who literally terrorized the area for a week or two. There were armed robberies and, sadly, two murders. Maybe not so surprisingly, it was all carried out by one person, a former student even:</p>

<p>I remember the sense of relief that came over the entire campus after an arrest was made, though it couldn't erase the loss of two young people.</p>

<p>I don't recall any of the victims engaging in activity that would be considered risky. They were just sitting in their apartments studying or watching TV.</p>

<p>There are definitely security boxes on campus- you should be able to see one wherever you are if you are outside. Off campus, there are fewer, but some still exist.</p>

because alot of people just blame the victim straight out. I'm tired of reading
"OMG that girl had a ridiculous short skirt, of course she was asking to be raped!" (i read this kinda thing on several rape articles) "Why was she <em>insert place</em>? She went there willingly, of course she was asking to be raped!" blah blah.

<p>If anyone's been speaking like that, it's really sad. No one ever "deserves" to have that kind of awful experience. I can certainly understand how your past experience colors how you view the recent events.</p>

<p>Hopefully the silver lining to a sad time on campus is that a lot more people are giving serious thought to security issues -- and helping to look out for their friends and neighbors as well. </p>

<p>It sounds as though some constructive things are happening on campus to respond. Being able to use Spirit Card money for Yellow Cabs isn't the ideal long-term solution, but it's one good start, with hopefully more to follow.</p>

<p>yeah PBK mom, I do know alot of people who writes comments like that (especially guys) on many sexual assault articles. It just makes me sad... those people are whom I'm referring to mostly, I think its important to learn from others' events but we should careful around personal comments ^^;;</p>

<p>I definitely don't walk/bike around after 10 or 11 or so though, I definitely learned from recent events, wouldn't take any chances.</p>

<p>I think anyone walking in the evening near usc should have their phone in their hand or pepper spray. Crime is a big problem everywhere and alcohol or even being tired from studying hard dulls your senses. </p>

<p>I think my son purposely does not tell us about these incidences of crime and even the virus outbreak because he is afraid we will worry and also want him to leave the school. Last year, we found out from college confidential about the heroin overdose in the dorm and the students robbed in the classrooms while studying over Christmas or spring break.</p>

<p>You made an excellent point about our kids not wanting to worry us. I am a bit concerned what will happen when my son is a junior and has to look for off campus housing.</p>

<p>^yeah I didn't tell my mom for awhile but did tell her around last week. I do carry around a pepper spray (that I never actually sprayed. o_O I wish I could practice it or something outside before I actually get into such a situation) for protection and a lil light thing that flashes haha.</p>
