Has anyone on CC been invited to the scholarship competition?

Hello cali2016,

My daughter will also be attending. I was hoping that others who have been through the process could comment on the average number of persons attending and any other similar input if possible? Very best of luck to you!

Hi Bob! A current student in Rollins told me that the number of finalists in the past two years were 65 and 50 respectively. Good luck to your daughter too!

I also got a letter and will be going to the scholarship competition. Good luck to all those who heard!

My daughter who is now a sophomore at Rollins received the Cornell Scholarship (It was called the Cornell Scholarship until it changed to the Alfond last year).

On the weekend she attended there were I believe 50 invited and 47 turned up for the weekend. Probably about two-thirds were girls and one third were guys. 5 girls were eventually given the full scholarship.

It’s a pretty intense weekend of talks, interviews, group discussions, team games, class work etc. All meals are taken with previous award winners, staff etc. Parents and kids are split up early on the Saturday and we didn’t see my daughter until the afternoon of the Sunday for lunch. They are in a different hotel along with other Rollins students.

She was given ‘reading’ before she went and had to take part in a discussion about the topic. My daughter said that during the class, some students seemed to have nothing to say and the teacher is asked about their perfomance during class. Best advice would be to know their topic and give their opinion if asked, take part, be involved, be sociable and be themselves.

Best of luck to everyone - my daughter loves Rollins and is doing very well.

@aviatordream Looking forward to meet you there! Where are you from? I’m flying in from Southeast Asia :D

@Floridalady Thanks for the input and congrats for your daughter’s achievement!

@cali1026 I’m from Florida, I hope to meet you at Rollins!
I know someone who was a Cornell scholar and she pretty much described what Floridalady was saying, mostly discussions and such. The best advice she gave me was to ask questions and state your opinions in a polite way.

@aviatordream Lucky you! I have been wanting to go to Disney World for ages LOL.
I guess we just have to be proactive during the scholarship weekend
Meet you there!

Thanks so much for the great info, Floridalady!

Best of luck cali2016 and aviatordream … and have safe travels. It has been very warm weather here lately, about 80 degrees for high.

@SideshowBob17 LOL even 80 degrees is cooler than it is at my country right now!

Too funny, cali2016! Our winters are funny here in Central Florida … 80’s yesterday, but to be 40 degrees tonight! Usually just a day or two of cold, then warms back up. I’ll hope for very good weather for your visit here in a few weeks.

Whoa! I hope the temperature stays warm and doesn’t fluctuate when I visit :)

Good news as currently the extended forecast shows nice weather for you all … high in low 80’s and low around 60 or so.

I look forward to seeing you all next Saturday AM.

That’s great! Will be flying on Thursday night. See you this Saturday!

Rollins did a fantastic job with the Alfond Scholarship competition this weekend! A great crop of students with 26 young ladies, 12 young men. Very best of luck to all on the results and it was great to speak with many of you.

I think only 35/36 went though.
