Alfred university

Does anyone know anything about this college?

For example, how hard is it to get into? What are the students like, generally? How are the academics? What are the strongest departments? What is the atmosphere? Do they give good financial aid?

Alfred is especially known for its ceramic arts program (it has an international reputation in that field). It is in the middle of nowhere in upstate NY where the winters are verrry loooooooong.

Beyond that, what are YOU interested in? How did Alfred get on your radar?

Very easy. Wouldnt be on my list at all

If you are a NY state resident and interested in the ceramic arts program, the tuition is reduced. It's just one of those quirky NY programs that is not widely known.
I'm not that familiar with Alfred. My "expertise" is more in line with finding "bargains" for NYS residents. i.e. ILR, Human Ec and Cals school at Cornell and ESF program in Syracuse.
But the ceramics program at Alfred does seem pretty interesting- it is somehow also hooked into some engineering programs at Alfred. Check their website out.

I applied for the Electrical Engineering program. I visited the campus this summer. Its a nice campus. Not fantastic but not ugly. The town is VERY small but they seem to get out a lot because they have a trip committee that organizes trips to NYC, Rochester and other cities. Generally speaking, half of the student body is the artsy type while the other half is engineering students. As for financial aid, its seems to be pretty good. Engineering programs are quasi-state supported so tuition for those programs is in the high teens. I got a half tuition scholarship. Still waiting on need based aid. If you have any more specific questions PM me. Its my 3rd choice right now(Out of 7). Also check out their website. Its actually informative.
