I just found that i failed my algebra placement exam for economics in college. I go to George Washington U. Is this common? Now I'm wondering if I should even take economics.

I would say reconsidering because of a simply placement exam is a bit rash. I would say not to worry all that much. Placement exams are usually made up of a large range of questions that are not always simple. Just because you failed it doesn’t mean you should reconsider what you want to do in life. If everyone reconsider their major after each test they failed then no one would ever stay in a major or graduate. Just be patient, review the questions you missed if you have the exam results if not I would figure out when you can retake the test and try to prepare a little better. Retaking the placement exam will make it seem easier the second time around. If your really nervous about the test talk to a teacher or some reliable adult that can help you with the preparation for the exam.
good luck

Only very simple algebra and graphs are used for intro micro/macro, so I wouldn’t say you should necessarily give up.
