In this thread kindly post why u chose cornell as your #1 choice

Let me start,
1) I want to join an univ that lets even freshemen join research groups and cornell lets u do that.
2) Cornell is Ivy and has one of the best Engineering departments (I got accepted by College of Engineering btw)
3) Though i've never been to US, i hear ithaca's got one of the most beautiful sceneraries.
4) My uncle lives close by... so i wont feel lonely in the US

I think you have heard enough from me, but I will tell you some good things about Cornell likes to have undergraduates to work in a lab. It is probably one of the best universities in the nation for that. If you are lucky enough to get Cornell Presidential Research Scholar, all the research groups on campus would love to have you work for them. If you want to get a few papers published or work in a cutting edge engineering lab throughout your undergraduate career, Cornell is probably the place for you.
For me, the research opportunity was the main attraction and I made Cornell my #1 choice four years ago. In retrospect, I really appreciated the opportunity that my research adviser gave me and the responsibilities she bestowed on me. However, it gets tough to carry out a full course load while do research on a weekly basis.
If you know what type of research you want to do, please let me know. I can probably refer you to a friend of mine who's doing research or tell you where to start looking.

ecc, i'm plannin to take up electrical and computer engineering. what are the prospects in that major? also, does cornell let u double major in say...engineering and economics? lastly, how likely is it for a freshman to get selected for somethin like the F1 team or robo cup team?

i love cornell because
1) its architecture school has a lot of reputation and it's top notch
2) it has a lot of student groups
3) it has a lot of majors to offer in case i drop out of architecture
4) its food is amazing

1) all the hot girls
2) my proposition for a badger as a mascot
3) (a little more serious now) Ivy League
4) food
5) I get to experience the East
6) school colors are the same as those of Campbell's soup
7) Elite but not elitist
8) great research institute
9) has a great reputation throughout the world
10) classes are not so small that you will have to literally brown nose your teachers
11) many majors to fall back on in case I change my mind
12) beautiful scenery
13) fresh air
14) Hockey Team rocks. Therefore, you can cheer for a winning team - something I never had the chance to go do in high school.
15) Has a relatively rich history and legacy
15) WOOOOOOOOO THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION COULD NOT BE ANY SEXIER.

yeah, i was semi-kidding. you know cornell's rep for unattractive girls. Not exactly true, as you will obviously notice when you visit, but not exactly not true, if you "hot-or-not" every girl in your class.

It's really nothing to worry about. We like to joke about it more than anything. We joke with our attractive female friends, of which I have found plenty, worry you not!, about how they're "eew, cornell girls." There are a bunch of hot girls, and while we're not entirely kidding, it's more the rep we make fun of. :)

I picked Cornell for multiple reasons; one being that it has the best food science program in the world. (Rumor has it that the scientists Willy Wonka holds hostage went to Cornell).

In any case, I just hope that it has the kind of political climate that I like. That is the only thing I could not find out when I visited, everything else was perfect.

talk to them? like seriously, especially during orientation and the first couple weeks of school. It's not at all weird to walk up to someone totally random and be like "Hi" (thinks: you're hot!) and start a conversation. a month into school that would be a little odd, but if the situation is right you can do it and not be sketchy. But yeah, it's not any harder to meet girls than guys. Just talk to them...

Yeah I know... I'm really not a shy person, lol... wow... Has it not sunk in for anyone else that they're going to Cornell? I need to drive up there at some point and watch the campus reveal itself over the hillside and be like, "holy crap... that's my college..." 'Cuz right now it doesn't seem real.

I know two girls that go to Cornell that used to go to my school and they are both hot. I was very shocked when I found out both of them were going there. Some of my friends and I are going to go visit and stay with them and party it up in a couple weeks to announce our arrival to the ivies. I'm sure there are plenty of good looking girls since it's such a huge school. But what are you all expecting at an ivy? And ya just try and talk to as many people as you can during orientation. No one is going to be freaked out like they would even a little bit later since everyone is a stranger it is a great opportunity to branch out and talk to other people that you may not get another chance to talk to.
