At my school, we generally have seven classes - 4 core classes & 3 electives. I’ll be a senior next year and I’m debating between taking 6 AP/1 honors (academy class) and taking my seventh period off (so 5 APs/1 honors) and maybe dual enrolling. Assuming I do fairly well in either, what would be more beneficial, given that they’re both college-level classes? (I do realize that the standards for AP and actual college classes are different.) I fear that taking a seventh off would turn me off to potential universities, but I’m not sure if dual enrolling would “make up for” that. Which is more preferable to colleges and universities? Thank you in advance!
Dual enrolling is only preferable if your school doesn’t offer AP courses in those subjects or if you have exhausted AP options available in your district.
As far as seniors struggling in Calculus AB, no good math student should pay attention to those examples. Most good students with strong math skills are usually done with Caluculs BC by junior year.
We had people failing and dropping BC but no decent math student dropped or failed AB. However, a lot depends upon the teacher.
It all depends on what type of colleges you are aiming for. If you are hoping for most competitive, check with your guidance counselor and see if they would mark you schedule as most rigorous with either. Also many good schools will give you credit for a strong text score from AP, and many will also give you credit for dual enrollment. You can check a few colleges you are interested in and verify.
