do you absolutely need all A’s in math to get into wharton? I don’t have all A’s, but I’m decent in Math and my standardized test scores reflect that.
Depends how often you get them, but B’s are fine if they come once or twice, but math grades really are important to Wharton.
Grades are definitely important-- Penn’s incoming freshman class has the highest average GPA in the Ivy League. That being said, a few non-A grades won’t be a serious problem- even if they’re in math and you’re applying to Wharton where math skills are obviously important.
If they are in an AP/Honors its not as bad looking as in a normal/standard class.
But A’s are certainly more preferable and better looking than B’s.
You don’t absolutely need all A’s but keep in mind most students who are admitted have all A’s.
Penn places extremely high emphasis on gpa. The average gpa for all enrolled Penn freshmen was 3.94 last year. so the avg GPA for accepted freshmen could very well be even higher. In general if u have a 3.9+ you are in good shape, 3.8-3.9 borderline ok and anything below 3.8 means kind of an uphill battle. also yeah wharton cares a lot about math grades and they expect applicants to have all As or almost all As (meaning only just a couple of Bs).
yeah my GPA sucks for penn im just applying cause its a dream school. @Penn95
that is ok, there are people who get admitted whose gpa is decent but not what is traditionally considered good for Penn. it is obv quite more difficult but not impossible by any means. if Penn is your dream school, it is better to apply and risk getting reject than never apply and always wonder what if… good luck!!
thank you! @Penn95
Having all A’s sometimes doesn’t really translate much because there are teachers out there who inflate grades and teachers out there who just hate kids. This is where standardized testing comes into play. I know someone who got a C in AP Calculus, but got a 5 on the AP test and 36 on the ACT math (obviously got accepted). Yes it can sometimes mean poor work habits, but if you’re doing well in other classes and participating in time intensive extracurriculars, it can really cancel out those letter grades.
yeah i got a 35 on ACT math and a 770 on SAT math (one away from 800 this kills me) but have 2 B’s in high school math. @toffys
omg i know right? I got the same. How is it ethical to give 770 for missing 1?
i know right!! so unfair in previous years it would have been 790 or even 800 if it was a good curve. now you cant get in the 99 percentile without acing it. so frustrating. @surfing777
and i missed a student produced response witch is technically a omit.
@andrewmcdona ME TOO OMG. the one I missed was on the “write in” section for october of last year.
And exactly. because at that point, if you’re only missing one, its probably not because you don’t know your stuff. Its probably just a silly mistake.
Yes exactly. I guess that’s the point of the score ranges but still it’s really frustrating @surfing777
I read the problem wrong on mine. Didn’t realize it had to be an integer
