Well- I don’t really know TOO much about these universities- since I didn’t apply to most of them- and know about them through friends who applied.

Frankly, chances are very abysmal at the top places. You must understand that UCLA, Duke, Northwestern et cetera and all are VERY hard to get into- even for ninety percenters. Your marks really do put you at a major disadvantage. I’m just trying to be as frank as possible here.

And no, dude- you aren’t screwed up just yet. uMichigan is a REALLY good college- among the best in the States. It has an engineering programme arguably better than us (though I preferred UCLA for the overall name and everything- and put down Mich, but that’s just me). So yeah- put in your VERY best for uMich, UIUC and Penn State (which are all amazing!)

I’d say- (in all my n00bness)

Reaches: uMichigan, UIUC, Gatech, UC Davis
Matches: Penn State, Purdue, UC Irvine, Drexel, Rutgers
Safeties: Virginia Tech, Michigan State.

Yup- if I were you, I’d apply to uMichigan, UIUC, Davis, Penn State, Purdue, Drexel and Michigan State. Plus, I’d consider UK as an option. And if you think you def. wanna go abroad- I’d also consider Californian Community Colleges and working my arse off the first year and then transferring to a UC (this saves money as CCCs are cheap) plus you might even end up at UCSD or even UCLA, if you do very well!) :)

As for getting into a better college- well- it’s probably too late to pimp up your CV now- so I’d say you should work on your academics- make your teachers love you and write you good recommendations, work hard on your essays and university applications (especially the reaches)- and take the SAT 2- and maybe even retake the SAT 1 and try to push it over 2100-2150ish… (as far as I know- Purdue and Gatech are suckers for high SAT people!) Oh- and if you must, try doing some community service- work with an NGO over the hols or sth! Makes you look good! lol! Though I’d suggest you focus on the acads!! Hope that helps!
