All Engineering and Computer ScienceImpacted?

In trying to apply for UCSD as a freshman you can not check off Computer Science or any of the engineering mahors since they are all impacted. They refer you to the website that really makes it sound dismal that you can ever get in to the major there. What the heck is going on? What are you suppose to choose then? You could end up there and it says you may not be able to take any of the CS classes because only 1 or 2 are open a year.

Many engineers/CS graduate from UCSD make big bucks, so everyone is trying to get in. They don’t have enough labs/devices for everyone to be an engineer, so admission in engineering is limited. You either apply an impacted major now, or transfer in with high GPA at second year. From my experience,if you wanna transfer in engineering later, they will rank all applicants with GPA, admit from the top. Admission for impacted major from other majors is 100% academic based. So you should not worry about it if you think you are competitive enough in math/physics. A spot in any engineering major is guaranteed with good freshman year science grade.
