My parents prefer that I stay on an all female floor at Davis. I don’t really mind this but I was wondering if anyone could give me some, idk, insight? into what staying on all female floor is like?
I know that this excuse is going to sound like a stereotype, but I’m a little worried that the girls staying on the all female floor are going to be socially awkward and not the kind of girls I would be able to make friends with easily…

i have something in common with your parents. i’d prefer if my son stayed on an all-male floor (all-male dorm really, but i know that isn’t possible). whose idea was it to have co-ed dorms?!? i’d definitely want my daughter (if i had one) to stay on an all-female floor. i myself wouldn’t want to be on the same floor with males. it just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. it’s not as though u guys won’t have other places to mix and mingle (dining commons, libraries, etc.). your living space doesn’t have to be one of those places.

just one of my pet peeves as a parent…

i’m curious as to how it all works. males and females stay on the same floor (in separate living quarters), but use separate restrooms? we didn’t go see the dorms on our visit.

Is the chief concern of adults in these situations sexual tension? From my experience with European schools, the schools where males and females are more often around each other have less issues with sexual tension, arguments, etc.

I visited UC Davis and had a short tour of their dorms. They have all a few all female floors in a building that is co-ed. They have NO all-male floors. There have separate restrooms for males and females on the co-ed floors, but they are right next to each other. Like public restrooms pretty much.
But this is UCD, idk about other colleges. I heard from someone that some schools, such as UCB, have co-ed bathrooms as well but i’m not sure if that is true.

@pewpew-
Yep, Cal has coed bathrooms. So does Stanford, I think. I’m not one to speculate as to whether coed bathrooms make for higher performing schools…

I don’t think segregating the sexes is that big of a problem. Sex is going to happen no matter what, so it’s not like having homogeneous floors will change that.

thanks for all the comments. but my question was aimed more at what is living on all-female floor like? is it that different from a co-ed floor? is there anyone who stayed on an all-female floor and regretted it?

was wondering the same thing, thinking of signing up for an all girls floor, but dont want to be antisocial. also don’t want to be limited to one hall option just because its where the all girls floor is

phantom: while i realize that sexual tension will occur wherever young people congregate, my main objection to co-ed dorms is that i think that students should at least get a choice. i think davis has one single sex dorm for females, but guys don’t get that option. that’s unfair. i’m sure there are just as many males who would like to avoid the potential drama that could ensue while living co-ed style and would prefer to have a living space where they can go to just study and relax. unfortunately, the only thing like that for males is a fraternity house, and if the greek life is unappealing to you then you’re essentially out of luck (until u move off campus).

It’s actually not that bad… I have two friends in a female floor and another in a female dorm. They’re just like any other floor or dorm, except a little cleaner. And yeah, it’s not like you’re ONLY going to socialize with girls your whole time here just because you live with them; being antisocial has nothing to do with that (living in an all-female floor/dorm, that is).

how do you apply for a female floor in a co-ed dorm?
I’ve completed all of my housing application, and that option has not come up.
they asked me to rank segundo, tercero, and cuarto.
and then in living preferences they asked for how many beds i would like in one room, any programs i would like to be in, preference between co-ed and all female floor, and living arrangement (standard, quad, or suite).

^ Wouldn’t you just press “female floor”? Just a guess

Edit: In a suite configuration on a COED floor will you share your suite with ONLY males or females too?

IndianJatt- I asked this question at Decision Day Only Cuarto has suites, and suites are NOt co-ed. However, the suites next to you may not be of the same sex. So all floors are co-ed, but all suites are unisex.

[Pierce Hall - Davis Wiki](http://daviswiki.org/Pierce_Hall)

it is a theme program, which should be one of the options to choose from in your housing app.

My goal is Cuarto. :D

plz be consistent jatt. i cant tell whether u r talkin in spanish or english ><

Why do u want Cuarto Jatt? I’m going to Cuarto, are you following me? If so, I would like to notify authorities about this

^ It’s the other way around. You’re trying to follow me to Cuarto by coming every weekend from UCSB.
