All girls boarding schools

Congratulations on wpi!

@cameo43 I hope you’re better at predicting goat births than the giraffe people!!

@Golfgr8 – Absolutely, send her on up here!

Thanks, @gardenstategal !
@buuzn03 – I’ll keep you posted! Goats are pretty easy to predict, they are very timely! We’ve been busy, it’s baby animal time here on the farm

Update: babies arrived safely and on time, as usual… but they still find ways to surprise us— we have adorable triplets, not twins! :x

Wow! Go Goat mama! Not to be confused with @GoatMama ^:)^

Sorry, just saw this thread… add Dana Hall School to your list. For sure.

Also Ethel Walkers. New dorm and amazing new athletic and social center. Also major riding facilities.

My daughter is a Junior at St. Timothys. She’s had an amazing 3 years and I can’t imagine her anywhere else. It’s just a lovely school.

My sister in law went to Garrison Forest outside of Baltimore. She loved it, but that was 20+ years ago. I’ve never seen it mentioned on here.

Also Oldfields near Baltimore - I never see it mentioned on CC

This might be a little far but I heard things good about the miss porters school in CT

Read the Vanity Fair article @ Miss Porters…would like to know how current students view the school.

That VF article is almost a decade old now, and so much of it was a little…envious. As always consider the source. Evgenia Peretz went to Concord Academy, I believe, and is the sister of former Lemonhead Jesse Peretz.

The Tatum Bass parts of the story read like a feeble attempt at history written by the losing side.

Also consider where MPS is located. Investigate how many girls there come from the schools in the CT area and beyond but are at Porter’s, and ask why those girls didn’t go the schools where they lived and/or grew up. It might be edifying to know what boarding school pros think Porter’s is as good or better than their own schools.

Porter’s certainly has some of the most enthusiastic students, alumnae, and parents of any of your more famous schools. It might not be for everybody, but if all-girls is your bag, many folks who would know say MPS is the best.

I love the idea of an all girls school, but really care about the community and school culture. Which schools (single sex or co-Ed) have the most socially-competitive girls? How can one tell? (I’d really prefer to avoid them…)

In response to the OP’s question - Madeira in VA seems to have a good reputation.

@CaliMex great question…and one I’ve been wondering, too. For those who looked at all-girls schools…what do you think are pros/cons? What route did you choose and why? (Co-ed vs girls)

My college friends who graduated from all-girls BS (MPS, Ethel Walker, Emma, Madeira) had confidence in the labs & classrooms. They all had great educational foundations for college. More interesting to me was what happened after college. These young women had a supportive & dynamic alumnae network that helped them get jobs!!! This was decades ago, but I believe the alum & “ancient” networks continue to be a plus for all-girls schools ;)!

Madeira seems like a very supportive community. Main down side is the large percentage of day students. Would love to hear about the cultures at some of the other all girls schools. PM is fine. Culture REALLY matters to us. We want a school where kids are kind to each other. I’m sure y’all are tired of hearing me say that

@CaliMex: Please look at Dana Hall. It is an excellent example of a school that truly knows how to educate girls. Excellent academics, strong athletics and arts programs and an emphasis on world views. I think it would be worth your time to go see it.

In the interest of full disclousure: I attended the school a while ago. But, I was just there for a reunion and attended presentations and classes which indicated to me that the school can still do it right!

And I NEVER tire of hearing that kindness matters.

@calimex Current sophomore at Madeira-- very supportive community, day student population very integrated into school life, especially if involved with on campus events. Most of the girls are very well balanced and passionate about at least something. If interested on certain aspects, DM me! Personally, im involved in the performing arts community so can answer any questions about that.
