as of now I have made no arrangements.. I just received the housing form yesterday... As for special housing I am looking into LOFT and healthy living options(I m ok with occasional drinks but don't wanna have ppl puking and drinking every night :) ).... Are u looking into any of the pre-orientation programs?? any idea if they have any pre-orientation program specifically for international students?? As for a quad its a four person room ( thats the explanation I got in one of the threads) with some sort of common area and separate doors for 2 rooms with 2 ppl each I think.. smthng like a small apartment I guess... I too e-mailed them for the visa stuff but no reply is forthcoming .. best of luck with ur doc's visits.. I shall be dng the rounds pretty soon too :(

yaaay! I finally got the visa documents (USPS express) + a travel arrangement form (e-mail); I'm happy that i can finally start the visa process, it seems that it will be a lot of work :( about the preorientation programs, i don't think i'll be able to do any of them, but one of the letters i got says that there is a mandatory international student preorientation program on august 23rd, which is supposed to help us with settling into our new home, give is some info about visas, etc. looks very nice and fun, to me at least; i haven't figured out what i want to write on the housing form, especially about the special interest communities. why did you choose LOFT, what is it actually? having to choose between different options is a great burden sigh i wish i were more decisive... anyway, how are you? how are preparations going?

yup.. even I got my visa dicuments a few days back...I think they changed their internation co-ordintaor from Sarah Welsh to Lisa and therfore this delay...
as for pre-orientation programs.. I think i'll just stick with the internation pre-orientation starting fron 21st-- that community thing for internationals......
I didn't choose LOFT, was just thinking off... I finally went in for Outdoor Living and Healthy Living Option...
Best of luck with ur visa preparations as I get down to do the same.. keep me informed...

the delay wasn't that big... i hope i'll manage the visa-getting just on time. good luck to you too, i guess luck is always helpful :) as for the special interest housing i'm thinking healthy living and loft or the commmunity service option - i have to make up my mind till tomorrow; i'm glad i'm almost done with the medical tests and the immunizations - so many needles, i hate them!!! i thought the international pre-orientation startds on august 23rd (or at least that is what it sais in the e-mail i got), what "community thing for internationals" do you mean? why am i so disoriented - i shouldn't be like this, it is not fun at all?! well, i guess things will work out anyway; btw, have you talked with any other internationals - why aren't there others on this thread?

Nope.. I couldn't find any internationals.. although the Colgate website says that 38 internationals have enrolled...
no community thing i think.. they just give us the opportunity to arrive on the 21st and have some intl students there to help us settle in.. well 1 day (if we arrive on 23rd) is to short 4 me .. so I plan on gng on the 21st so that i m a bit more setteled by the time orientation begins.. I too was thinking of LOFT but then I thought that I need some time to settle in before I think off leading other ppl and therefore I didn't fill in LOFT.. same with community service.. I think I will need some time before I get into these things.. But I filled in for Outdoor Living to be able to explore the Hamilton area :) yeh and luck always help.. so here's a big dose of luck for you to help you with pre-departure blues.. its good to know that someone somewhere is as paranoid as I am :) :)

hey.. het onto www.facebook.com... u'll meet half the class there as of now.. and growing :) ... hws everythng gng??

that's a great web site - i love it! all these pictures look like snapshots from a typical hollywood movie... why do people say that life isn't like in the movies, then? i noticed that you don't have a pic... i very glad that the housing form is now gone, sent :) cuz till the last moment i was wondering what to choose... i wrote loft and healthy living, as for the rest i don't remember and now fate has to decide; one other thing about the photos is that they make the reality of going to the US more evident... the entire idea sounds so dreamlike and unbelievable to me that i think i'll accept it only once i arrive at colgate and jump on my new bed :) i was wondering if you've studied any other languages and what language are you going to study in college... i've studied french and spanish and i'm really eager to really learn spanish; may be i'll get a chance to use it for the first time! lots of good luck to you too and to all other paranoid internationals who we'll meet this fall :P

ha ha.. jump on your new bed.. that'll take some shopping first unless u plan on taking ur bedding along..:) .. hws ur packing gng.. made a list yet.. I am yet to schedule a visa interview.. aaahhhh... as for my pic. it'll come pretty soon I guess.. and facebook is supposed to be the lifeline of college students there.. u'll soon be checkiong it like 15 times a hr :).. I don't know many languages... except 4 English and Hindi and plan on learning French there I guess... loads of luck :)

yeah, you're right about the bedding, i'll have to buy some sheets first, but that too will be fun... shopping is always great, especially in a new country where everything is do different :) i've scheduled my visa interview for next friday, but i'm freaking out cuz a friend told me about one of his classmates, who was refused a visa for no reason even though she was accepted to a pretty good college with a big scholarship. so, i'm afraid all will go wrong in the last second... well, anyway... last night i got an email saying that colgate doesn't have my insurance form grrrrr :(( but i sent it by FedEx two weeks ago, and on the FedEx it says it has been delivered - i totally hate it when it happens this way - i can't even guess what went wrong this time and i'm not sure any of the other forms are safe and sound on the proper desk in the proper office at the college... why, why me?! how do you send your forms? as for the packing today i found a suitcase that i like, but it turned out to be extremely expensive and unbelievably heavy :( i'm planning on taking only some clothes, my laptop, and some make-up (what am i missing? the list is supposed to be longer but i can't think of anything else) two days ago i got a computer catalog from the colgate bookstore, but i already have a comp... are you buying or bringing one? hope things are working out for you far better than for me :)

i use normal snail mail :) and the insurance form , even I got that letter I think they've messed up, but since I'm purchasing the college insurance its not a big deal :) As for a comp. I plan on buying one there but not from the bookstore.. they r pretty expensive... And for the visa thng well even I am a little paranoid but in the end hopefully everything will work out:)

hey can you guys give me any 1st hand info on financial packages (if you applied as an intel)?

great fin aid packages... if u get in they will give u all u ask for

but dont you have to be spectacular to get in

well, modesty aside, you should be very good because colgate is a great place; however there is an infinite number of things to be good at, so find your greatest strenght, work on it, and show that in your application; and they will see you at your best and appreciate it :)

Hello! I've finally registered!

Maria/Russia/Attending/luta@list.ru

How are your visas?! How are your suitcases?!

Hi, Maria, congrats on your acceptance and registration! Visa, suitcases... I don't have them, yet :(, but I'm working on it; how are yours? what do you want to study?

Thank you! I also have neither visa nor suitcases. I'm going to send my documents for visa just today! But it must be OK (at least I hope so:)
And suitcases: I've no idea what to take and how I will carry my baggage with only TWO hands!
I'm going to study the environment and live in the Outdoor Connections community. It must be cool
What's with your reading? How is Mountains beyond Mountains?!
And.. when do you, guys plan to arrive? Did you buy the tickets? For me it became a problem:( because too many people are going to US this summer

Thanks!
My congratulations as well!
I also have neither visa nor suitcases:( But they MUST appear soon (at least I hope so):)
And I don't know what to take. But when I try to imagine the number of necessary things I wonder how I will carry them with only TWO hands!
I want to study the environment and applied for living in the Outdoor Connections.
By th way, when will you arrive and where? New York? Did you, guys, buy the tickets? I have hard time with them:(

Sorry for repeating. Something's happening with my computer and it tries to deceive me:(

hi maria,
Finally good to see another Internation gng to Colgate '10 ... Welcome aboard :) and don't worry looks like none of us have a visa and suitcases yet.. ha ha .. guess its all gonna be done in the last minute rush.. Mountains beyond Mountains.. I wish it wasn't such a mountainous task to read it.. but I finally managed to read it through.. the story is good but their is this whole lot of medical stuff and yuck I hated that.. why do all these Pulitzer Prize winner have to write such boring stuff!!!! ( thats just my opinion though).. but if u aren't interested in medicine I think its gng to be a boring read..
Hey.. I too applied for Outdoor Connections living.. Seems Cool :)) and yeh even I'm planning to arrive in NEW YORK and then to SYRACUSE and then I think i'll request Colgate transportation.. although I have made no arrangements.. just waiting for my Visa thing first...:)... best of luck with your arrangements
