My dad was on buisness trip for a week in May. He took me along. It's really strange, the professors I met with were great, the students I talked to all LOVE the school. I think being in classes 10:1 with a teacher who holds a DR. is great. It seemed that the teachers REALLY cared; it is not just a job. Did it being All-Male scare me? YES! at first, but, as you said, there are all-female schools with in 1-hr. driving distance. The school is VERY CONECTED to the Old South, which I found appealing. Perhaps the thing I liked most was The Honor Code; teachers LEAVE the room during exams (so I heard) The Honor Court is completely student run, has a lot the power.
The thing I disliked the most, probably was Farmsville. really SMALL town; not much to do, NO NIGHTLIFE but I'm ok with that. I don't want to go to college for a BIG PARTY I'm there to STUDY and LEARN. gasp
HSC only has 1,000 students. This last May they graduared 271 seniors {the LARGEST in the college's 230 year history.}The price tag is scaring my parents [$80,000 a year]
It really is a special place. The dorms were ok. some big some very small.
I'd really like to get into the suites. only two to a Bathroom:) instead of 7:(

That was my 1st response, if you'd like to know more just ask.

Like every other business, higher education is very much market driven. There is still a respectable demand for womens' colleges, whereas, many coed schools find themselves beating the bushes for qualified male applicants, even as the phenomenon of the all-male college has virtually disappeared. Quite the interesting turnabout, to be sure, but I fail to understand why Shiraz is concerned that all-womens' colleges still exist, but laments the dearth of all-males schools.

Parent Plus Loans (can be amortized 25 to 30 years at low interest rate)

Other loans available.

Talk to financial aid office about all your options if you want to really go there. It can be done.

I don't know how you're doing your math, Wabash, but using your link I figure it at about $31,944. That's assuming you live in a double your freshman year.

I was not lamenting the dearth of male schools, I was trying to find out if there were more than I knew of.
Most of the schools to which my son applied, had higher (most were significantly
higher) female to male ratios. Columbia was one which was equal...I knew he wouldn't get into Columbia, but stood a good chance at Barnard...if he were the right gender...I guess I just don't care for exclusivity...in any way, shape or form.

Shiraz - men actually have a slight advantage when applying to coed schools, as high school girls are more accomplished, have better grades ,more ECs, and write better essays than their male peers.
