Two of my best friends applied ED to W&M. I am applying RD, but W&M is my second, and most viable, choice. If I don't get in... I don't know what I'll do.

Interviewed during the summer.

7 AP Classes total. 5 and 4 on my jr. year APs.
Undertaking huge research project on my own, working on it for three years - explained in a wonderful rec.

Attended VA Governor's Language Academy.

Won several awards in a little bit of everything.

Captain of Academic Team, Precinct Captain for Obama For America, Senior Class acting VP, Marching Band Rank Captain last year.

My essays were excellent.

If I do get in, and if you are familiar with financial assistance at W&M, could you tell me how much I might expect if I was admitted? My family income is about $60-75k, I'm not sure.

Thanks so much!

bump for my sanity!

I would imagine that you have a good chance of getting in, though a 600 math SAT is not very good at all.

If WM is your most viable option, you should probably apply to a few more safety schools.

At 60k-75k, you probably wouldn't get very much/if any at all aid from WM. We don't have very much money. You might get federal money through fafsa, I don't know.

Thanks inchoative! Anyone else have an idea?

The Math SAT could be better, but everything else looks good. I agree with Inchoative, you have a decent chance.

As for aid, I don't think you would get anything from W&M. Your best bet is fafsa and other scholarships. Apply to lots of them!

looks pretty good to me, and i'm guessing that language academy will help. i went to the french language academy, and i'm convinced it helped me a lot. : )

At $60-75K, your family's income is too high to qualify for the Gateway program at W & M, which covers full tuition and room/board through grants (no loans). The Gateway program is for Virginia residents with a family income under $40K/yearly.

However, in most cases, $60-75K will still qualify for some need-based aid at W & M for Virginia students. (OOS, not really.) The aid may be composed of more loans than grants, but it's certainly worth pursuing by completing and submitting the FAFSA. Good luck!

Here's what the W&M Financial Aid website has to say:

[quote]
The College's undergraduate aid policy is centered on meeting as much as possible of a student's demonstrated financial need. For Virginia residents, we generally meet students' full need, but have gaps in offers for some nonresident students. Like many institutions, we meet lower amounts of need in self-help and focus our grant money on higher need levels.

just out of curiosity what was your gpa your freshman year?

I think there is more to it than just the 40K income.

My thoughts exactly xcxzsky. Everything looks good, but why are you not talking about your freshman year? I mean, the college is going to look at that too. You need to list everything. I know, Can I get into Harvard? My GPA was a 5.37 2nd semester, junior year. If you failed all thsoe classes it might not look good.
