Hi, I'm running for my school's Key Club treasurer.

This is my first time ever running for an office, so I'm trying to get advice from you guys because after reading the "What are my chances?" forum, I know there are some people who are very experienced at elections.

Well, elections are tomorrow and I'm running against 2 juniors (one guy, one girl), and a sophomore (girl). I'm a sophomore guy myself, so I think I'm at a disadvantage against the juniors.

Do you guys have any good methods of getting elected?

I'll copy/paste my speech I'm planning to give tomorrow in a few minutes...

You should have a decent/good reputation already....and have an affable personality....in addition to some sort of experience or admirable qualities for your position.

First of all, people have better things to do during lunch or after school, don't go over a minute, 30 second spiel would be best.

Second of all, The mindset of CCers who are president of 5 clubs isn't right. You'll notice that the leaders of the largest clubs such as student government and nhs serve no more than 3 clubs. Being a leader is being friendly and laidback. People dont' vote in people who are aggressive and want to be the leader of every single club, which curiously they believe will hand them a one way ticket into college.

Finally, Its all about yourself. There's no methods. Its about how you act around people. People simply vote on your reputation and character.

I hope this helps. Sorry, if I sounded harsh. this is coming from easygoing person who is mesa club vice president and math team captain.

Here's my speech:
Hey everyone.
Im Philip Shin, a sophomore, whos running for treasurer.
Im going to try to make this short so that we can get out of here faster since there are so many people running this year.
To start off, Id like to say that Im a dedicated and active member in Key Club. Youd always see me doing the cheers and the pledge. I think that this along with my determination and ability will make me an excellent treasurer.
Despite the fact that this office consumes a tremendous amount of time and requires a lot of work, Im really up for the challenge. Im really good at managing, keeping track of, saving, and using money and I can do them all well.
I love having fun at Key Club events so I have a real motivation and reason to work hard and keep Key Club such a great club, which is so that everyone in Key Club has the privilege of being able to enjoy these events. What Im really hoping for is actually to increase the amount of events that we have by finding ways to supply the money for them. What I also want to do with Key Clubs money is I want to lower the expenditure of Key Clubbers while maintaining a steady supply of money. I find that a lot of people may feel that the money they spend on joining and staying in Key Club is a rip off and I plan to change that. (Fundraisers less money we have to pay + more events more opportunities for hours less chance of being kicked out so your due is completely worthless + more events!)

"Key club is koo
Totally new skoo
Elect me for treasuwer
Key club will be more pleasuwer
I got skillz to handle dose billz"

If you rap that I guarantee you'll win :P

On a more serious note, you could do that at the beginning then go into why you're qualified, skip the mumbo jumbo about being a hard-working individual unless you have a specific [good] example. I would. Then again, I'm a wacko exchange student who will do anything to make something a little more fun.

my brother is in 4th grade...yea, fourth grade. this other guy in FOURTH GRADE did this speech in rap and won as a vice president:

there's a city of **,
and there was a school named *,
and ooh! was it in trouble!
they needed a good v.p.,
who will take away the trouble
and it was ***!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-obviously i put **** to secure my security(?).

You know what's fun? Putting up creative or funny election posters for yourself or a friend who's not even running. My friend did that at his school before. Would have been elected, too, most likely (He ran the next year with the slogan that went something like "Vote for Carl: he's actually running this year!" and won.).

Sorry, that had nothing to do with the topic.

Back on topic: In my experience, speeches and stuff don't do as much as your reputation (and in some cases, your popularity). But there's not much you can do about that now, so the next best thing would be something creative that catches people's attention. The cat idea is ok, as is the rapping. Think of something that fits you, though.

Edit: I agree with the person who said someone shouldn't be pres. of 5 clubs. It usually doesn't turn out well.

be funny... be really funny and laid back. the rap is a good idea... you'll stand out that way. when i do elections, i dont say the same old-- im dedicated blah blah. say what YOU will do for the club and how you chose the position because you have new ideas. and then be funny more... itll separate you from serious/boring candidates. also, being an overachiever is a turn off... 5 club presidents is a lot.

yeah, do the rap. Your current speech is so cliche, i mean, everyone will do some crap like that. Do something really quirky that everyone will think is totally awesome. For example, do a fast paced dance!
