Hi. I am currently a high schoool junior who is planning on taking AP Bio next year. This is a thread dedicated to all current and previous AP Bio masters to tell of their overall experiences with AP Bio such as the AP Exam, the rigor of the course and just the general 411 on your AP Bio experience. Thanks!!!!!!!

Hey, I think I took AP Bio my junior year. It was my favorite class in high school. My teacher was intense and lectured for the full class period almost every day. We would write pages and pages of notes every day and our tests were VERY straightforward. Biology is a kind of subject where you either know the information or you don’t. It’s a lot of memorization and you will find that you have to do a lot of studying on your own (making flashcards, doing old AP tests, etc.). We did maybe one lab out of the 10 or so you’re supposed to do in class and a pig dissection, and I think I can count on one had the number of times I opened the book that was assigned. I got a five on the AP test last year, I didn’t think it was very hard at all. I suggest getting an AP bio prep book and going through it to see if you’ve got the major topics covered thoroughly.

Thanks sooooo much. I am really scared to take the class because I hear that there is sooooooo much reading involved. Were you able to maintain a good gpa and score high on the chapter test? In general how much studying did you do per day? Did you take any other ap’s?

I’m currently taking it, and hands down the reading is the worst. We use the Campbell book, and my school ordered us membership to their website, which basically summarizes the material and the labs. The Catch 21 would be that you have to have some sort of understanding of the material beforehand. Youtube is your best friend, I recommend KhanAcademy’s channel. It’s actually a really interesting class, and I don’t consider myself too science oriented.
