All Things AP Psychology

I am currently a junior in high school who is planning on taking AP Psych next year. This is a thread dedicated to current and previous AP Psych masters that are willing to share their experiences in AP Psych and talk about things such as the AP Exam, the rigor of the course and just the general 411 on how your experience with AP Psych was. Thanks!!!

AP psych rapes!! It is not hard, but not “easy”. I got a 97 last semester, but you do have to read a lot. If you actually studied for the school-year tests, then you won’t really need to study for the AP test. Get PR or 5 steps to a 5. I got a 5 on it :P

Barron’s AP Psychology is generally accepted as the amazing guide for AP Psych. I am using it solely to self study

I’m finding my AP Psych class to be reeeeeally hard. There are two AP Psych classes, one starts with a biology teacher who supposedly does the sciencey kinds of stuff and then goes to the other who is a social studies teacher who does the other stuff. (the 2 classes switch teachers in the 2nd semester). So I had the biology teacher guy, who I had for bio, and have hated him since and still do. He’s a terrible teacher haha we haven’t learned anything so maybe thats why I think its hard. Next semester I get a real teacher and will see how it actually is =P

So like whats the general amount of homework per night? I am kind of afraid to take the class because I don’t know what to expect as far as workload. Are the test super hard?

none. We have printed power points. I add to the notes in class, and I study for tests. We have a textbook, but no one uses it. The pass rate is about 75%. But it all depends on your teacher.

My AP Psych class is a joke. Everyone thinks it is really hard because the teacher is pretty bad, but if you read the textbook on your own, it’ll be fine (I have a 99 unweighted right now, and I don’t take any notes, I read the textbook about 15 minutes a night). I’m going for a 5 :P

I don’t get homework other than a paper a quarter/semester and mandatory note cards for the vocab every month. Easy class. My teacher even gives test corrections for half credit on half the tests.

when it comes to AP social studies classes, it comes down to just reading the book (the whole book). Anyone that can do that is guaranteed a 4 or 5

Wow. SoundD like an easy AP class. So overall, would you recommend I take the class? If so, why?

I would recommend you take it. It’s really an interesting subject.

thank you sooooo much for all your help.

AP Psych is one of the easiest AP classes and tests to take. BUT, you must read the book and still put effort into the exam to get a 5. I highly recommend the Barrons.

I’m planning on self studying for it nxt year bc they don’t have it at my school. Is it usually full year or 1 semester? is barrons just for studying or is the actual book you guys have in class?

Our class is all notes… I fall asleep every day

^ yeah same here

I’m in AP Psychology right now, and it’s my favorite class. It probably has a lot to do with my crazy (but very intelligent) teacher. I don’t think that the workload is bad, but my friend thought it was way too much and dropped out of it. If you can read the textbook and take notes every night, it’s easy. And MAKE NOTECARDS OF THE VOCABULARY! That is the reason why I have a 98 in the class right now. And they will help a lot when you study for the exam. So, you can’t just sit around and do nothing and do well, but if you just focus and do the work it will be relatively easy. Also, I think that the material is very interesting, so that might be a reason why I am doing well.
