question, how exactly does to alternative choice work? if u get it, do they put u in a different college gernal curriculum such as LAS or do they actually choose a specific major for u?

I think everyone got deferred for business whether, instate, outstate or international. I called up the admissions officer and she said that they dont make a descision until March 1st, so deffered doesnt mean anything..just that theyre waiting for others.

I think theyre trying to say this "we've seen your file, now we're waiting for others (majority of applications who apply RD) so if there are better people we will reject you and vice versa.

I doubt this means anything...and yes how does the alternative choice work?

you are admitted into UIUC under LAS-General Curriculum i.e. undecided, or if you are even luckier they might offer you an Economics major. You get to pick of course.

in response to DDA You are wrong. I know of several people (myself included) that were admitted into UIUC Business program.

Deferral from Business is not death. Historically, that college has held off on vast majority of final decisions until after all applications are in. Some are being admitted now, many are being rejected, but deferral from business mainly means that you will be reviewed after all apps are in and your chances of admission have not really changed much.

sigh, hopefully thats truee

ahhh! apologies then canon28 and congratulations! It was just that UIUC messed up with my sat scores and they put me in priority and then took me out of it and put me in it again. and when i called them up, the admission officer said for international students it doesnt matter cause all decisions come on march 1st or something like that.

so yeah, i guess i am wrong and once again congrats,,u going there?

Yes, I plan on going there. Many very qualified students at my school were deferred from Business, although a few were admitted. However, as others have already said, I think you should not consider a deferral as the end of the world. Deferral basically will allow them to pit you against the rest of the applicants once all applications have poured in. You're still in the game; it is only over when you receive Admit or Deny.
