Well if we’re getting un-American and going international (just kidding ), there’s this from the all-time brilliant “Father Ted” from the UK’s Channel 4 from 1995-1998:
The theme song itself probably only becomes memorable once you watch the 20-30 episodes from the three short seasons. It’s about three Irish Catholic priests banished to some forsaken island, along with their housekeeper. Insanely brilliant Irish/UK humor, and the theme song becomes more special when you understand why it only ran for three seasons.
If you have time to spare this holiday season, take a gander at “Father Ted”. Brilliant show, and, like I said, the song takes on a special meaning after you’ve taken in what it was/is about, and the actors. One of the all-time greats.
Funny! For decades, until a few days ago, I always assumed it was filmed in NC.
I remember going to Mount Airy, NC (Andy’s hometown and the apparent basis for Mayberry) in the late 1980s, as I was staying on a short trip in the vicinity. I remember stopping at a gas station and asking the fellow there where all the Andy Griffith Show stuff was in town, and he told me there wasn’t. Apparently, Mount Airy has changed quite a bit, and there is now plenty of stuff memorializing the super-great Andy Griffith and his show.
I love this show, but wouldn’t have ever thought it’s theme song was all that great. Then, the Rolling Stone article cited above mentioned it was one of the toppers:
What the heck! My kids love it too, decades after it first ran.
Loved the MASH theme song. And the Addams Family one was great. It’s weird that I know it, since I can’t remember ever actually watching the show. I hate most theme songs, but I did love the one from Firefly. Firefly Theme - YouTube
Ok, folks. Talk me down, as I am out of control! I promise this is my last post of the day:
I much prefer this version as it specifically references the Professor and Mary Ann, as opposed to calling them “all the rest” in the original version.
I literally just watched that a couple days ago, because I was reminiscing about how much I loved that show. Room 222 was a big influence on my developing values.
