@liveonboca She received it via snail mail.
@taverngirl Thank you.
Status changed on Tuesday, today I received a holiday card from my admissions counselor at Allegheny saying, “What an exciting year 2018 promises to be for you! I remain excited about your interest in Allegheny College! Wishing you a fantastic holiday season! All the best,” and signed. I don’t know what to expect!!!
paintinflowers my ds received the same holiday card and has been accepted. I bet you are too! I’m guessing one mailing went before the other. Good luck!
Got in with the Trustee Scholarship - the most generous scholarship so far!
OMG congrats that’s so exciting! Did you hear back today?
Yes! Got my letter today. Saw that Erie, PA got 4+ feet of snow just a day or two ago so the wait might be long for some of you as well! My letter was sent out on 12/21 to give a time frame (though holidays took part as well).
I hope my letter comes soon :-S
Have any other EA applicants not received their letters yet? I’m getting worried.
i haven’t gotten mine yet, but my portal says it’s in the mail
Ok I just got mine! I was accepted and with a Trustee’s Scholarship! So excited
I got an admission offer with a Trustee’s scholarship and a smaller merit scholarship. I’m waiting on two more applications, but I’m leaning towards AC. I was also accepted to AmeriCorps FEMA Corps, so I may defer until fall of 2019.
Hi,
I recieved my acceptance letter back in december and my financial aid information from Allegheny today and it was an incredibly generous award. From what I can tell about this school, it definitely works hard to make paying comfortable for students but I’m a little worried. It has a pretty high acceptance rate so I’m not so sure if it’s a really competitive degree that will look well for law schools. Also does anyone who’s been accepted know what there is to do in the area because it looks like the college is in the middle of nowhere. If someone could give me their opinions on the school, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you!
Congratulations on your acceptance and financial award!
I would like to start off by saying that just because a school has a “pretty high acceptance rate” does not mean it is not competitive and that it may not look well to law schools. Some statistics of the incoming class of this year show that the average GPA was 3.6-3.7, SAT scores range from 1100-1300, ACT scores range from 23-29, and 33% of students graduated at the Top 10% of their class and 65% graduated at the Top 25% of their class. I’m surprised that you, as a senior who is looking into a rather competitive future field, did not do research on Allegheny regarding their “pre-law track”.
As someone who is also looking into eventually going to law school, Allegheny really stuck out to me because of the opportunities that they offer “pre-law” students (specifically the LSoE and AU study options) and the schools students end up going to, among other things such as political activism and diversity among the student body.
Here are some links referring to the internship opportunities AC offers and schools students have gone to in the past years:

As for what there is to do around the college, you have to be okay with a limited number of options. I was also rather concerned (as I’m in an area where I have easy access to Manhattan, Boston and Philly), but there are places to go, though not as many as I’m used to. Some of these include nearby outlets, Erie, Pittsburgh, and other surrounding colleges. Obviously, there isn’t as much to do as there would be in a city, but their student center as well as activities they hold for their students guarantee that there is always something to do (though, you probably won’t have as much time to wander off than you think).
Here is a link regarding what students do off campus:

Hopefully this helps you on your decision-making!
In all honesty, I think if Allegheny was situated in a different area, it would be much more highly regarded and selective. My daughter and I visited and were blown away with the everyone we met, from the students to the faculty to the admissions reps. It has a lot going for it–check out the different rankings on their website. I believe it’s one of the best LACs with regards to research and has a very highly rated environmental science department, among other things.
Thank you paintingflowers, I was really worried but you put me at ease and actually made me very excited for the opportunity. And thank you taverngirl, I’ll have to see how I feel on campus first but I feel very optimistic.
Finally received my letter today. I was accepted through the Early Admission for HS Juniors program and got 30k a year for the Trustee scholarship.
Anyone get an invitation to the Honors Program?
I was accepted this week with a Trustee scholarship! About 50% of the cost will be covered, but we are still awaiting the financial aid package to see if any grants will make it more affordable.
Was accepted with an International Student scholarship, but have no supplementary information or ‘package’, didn’t get any e-mail or review on the financial aspects of going there (or simply some informations about the academics, housing,…) whatsoever.
Will also most likely decline the offer because it’s still too expensive for me.
