This is a little late but thought I would weigh in on this discussion. My daughter was accepted to Drexel, U Pitt in Greensburg and Allegheny. She has tuition credit and scholarship money so she’d graduate debt free from Pitt Greensburg. She has decided to absorb a $17,000/year debt to attend Allegheny. While it is true the college a student chooses for undergrad study is less important than good grades and high MCAT scores, we felt Pitt never sold us on the Greensburg campus. Further, her SAT was slightly below Pitt’s required score for main campus and they would not acknowledge her high GPA, attendance at a Pitt college preparatory program, shadowing at local hospitals or her other many accomplishments. Drexel’s offer would leave her with a $50,000+ debt per year. When we toured Pitt Greensburg we were turned off seeing signs posted throughout the campus for sex olympic games, party trash inside and outside, loads of cigarette butts around student housing. It was clear the environment is not what my daughter is looking for. And, we had concerns about the rural setting of Allegheny. She desires the college experience but she also wants focus and academic growth. We know several successful Allegheny alumni in business, law and medical professions, attesting to the education received there. They all have nothing but praise for this college. My daughter sums it up best; "Drexel is an awesome offer but when weighing cost, Allegheny is an equally awesome contender. Pitt just didn’t sell me’.
We are confident in her choice of Allegheny. Congratulations to all of Allegheny’s incoming freshman!
