Not much action on the Allegheny board. Where are you all? I don’t know if it is just from a lack of interest in the school or what? On the other hand, no former students coming on the complain either.

Anybody out there?

I’m lurking! D2 is accepted but we haven’t visited yet–planning a trip in late March when she’s on spring break.

Have you visited? What did you/your student think?

Allegheny has a nice campus spread out a bit in a small town in the snow belt of western PA. They have decent facilities for a small college, but remember that it is 90 miles from a major city.

Generally speaking, their student body is fairly liberal minded politically, not too religious, and academically superior. The students seem to fair well in graduate school appications, particularly in Economics and some basic sciences.

I have been there many times and know several students and professors very well.

Hope this helps a bit.

S went in the summer to visit. Doing an overnight visit soon. My Son seemed to like the combination of academics and athletics. I am a little concerned about the small size and remote location. (Small size may suit at first but may get old by the time you are a junior/senior. Hopefully he will have a better feel for it after visiting again with students around.

See the College Admissions forum under " Allegheny" fort some recent posts too.

:)

Daughter accepted at Allegheny with a fairly generous merit scholarship as well. She also spent the night there in November with the cross-country team and had a great time. This college has been gracious and all class in their recruitment period. We are still waiting to see what some other colleges offer financially, but this school is a definite option. They also had, by far, the best food for prospective students! Beautiful campus and VERY personable staff and administration. As far as the snow belt-we live in the real snow belt about an hour north of Allegheny College (NY State)-so Allegheny is practically tropical for us!

Anyone know when the “priority” application decisions will be out? S applied with the common app well before 1/15 priority deadline and was told his app would be treated the same as the leadership app. Decisions for the priority apps were supposed to be out within 3 weeks of application. Even if you assume it is three weeks after 1/15, it appears the decisions should be out by now.

Has anyone heard recently?

Sorry. Don’t know the answer…but my guess would be that even the priority applications are caught up with a large number of last minute applications. Daughter applied quite a bit earlier and got her answer in about 2-3 weeks. My guess is that you will hear any day. They seem to be really on the ball!

Thanks DARunner. We will wait patiently.
