Allergies

does anybody here that currently goes to CMU have bad air-born allergies.

I have really bad air-born allergies (and I live in OH YAY) and I was wandering how it was on campus and if the dorm rooms where that bad. I wanted to bring a air filter if they r bad but I don't wanna waste the time and money on getting and maintaining one if its not horrible their. Plus once I get through fall its like home free. I just have never lived in pittsburgh or been their overnight so i have no clue.

Are you staying in New House? If you are, you have nothing to worry about.

I think that generally CMU has pretty good dorms, but I am an incoming freshman too so I don't really know. But if New House is an example, I wouldn't worry about it. Especially if you are staying there (like me).

If you have really bad allergies and a doctor's note of some kind, you can get permission for a window air conditioner in the non-New House dorms.

Yea I requested new house because I do have really bad allergies. It looks like it will be fine their. I guess I'm hoping pittsburgh in general won't be as bad as the little farm city I live in. It's a relief though because I don't want my allergies to be my focus.

I had pretty bad allergies back at home (NC), mostly pollen and my cats, but I have had virtually no problem at CMU. I don't even take any medication anymore. Last spring there were a couple of days when I noticed my allergies starting up, but I think that for the most part the frequent rain keeps the air pretty clean.

My son did fine with his allergies at CMU. The fall and ragweed season usually does him in, but he seems to do well in Pittsburgh. He did have a window air conditioner though.
