what kind of allowance are you guys getting a month? what do the students at NYU generally have?

Cheers

Allowance? I haven't gotten allowance since middle school...

This all depends on the type of person you are and how often you'll spend money and on what.

If you have a meal plan, and assuming you go out 3 nights a week (average at NYU), anywhere from $100-$200 a week should be okay.

im with jesminder...havent gotten an allowance...like ever actually

I think you may have misunderstood the question. By allowance, DCH means "spending money", that you'll definitely need at NYU whether you've gotten an allowance or not.

It varies considerably. If you're on a budget, you can easily go out and spend only $50 a week (though dont expect to be eating much [ or join clubs that give free food]) and still have a very fun time. You can also just as easily blow $200-300 a week, if you want to go out to dinner at restaurants, host parties, buy drinks at clubs, etc.

Lack of spending money really won't impede you from doing much...the base costs of most things are "relatively" cheap..just add ons get you. Ex. Going to movies can cost you $10.50...or close to $30 if you want to take a cab there and get food. Going to club + taxi can cost 20-25....buy a few drinks there you're up to $60.

thanks ABirch...im trying to estimate how much money i'd need to get by on a weekly basis...so whether this is through allowance or job money, anyone can help. just trying to get an estimate of the students at NYU. i guess i assumed the general population at NYU would have an allowance...

im making my money this year before i attend NYU, but as an international student i cant make much money through work once there so i'll be getting an "allowance" from my parents if needs be...trying to estimate if i need one and how much.

i am also curious now into whether the average student at nyu actually gets an allowance, and if so, how much? i know this is ridiculous to estimate for all the students at NYU, but some stereotypes would be nice.

Thanks for your help,

D

No prob DCH. Most of my friends here get money from their parents. Remember, Manhattan is an expernsive place, though since you're from London, maybe not so much for you.

Depending on the week, I usually spend around 100-200 on going out. Some weeks it will be less (e.g. during exams) and some it will be more (e.g. I spent about $200 on drinks and Japanese food at only one place last week). I also have a meal plan.

I think you should be okay if you estimate an average of $150 per week on drinking and other types of entertainment. I started a thread just like this last year, you'll probably be able to find it if you do a search.

thanks for the tip bruv...
