I was chosen for the Oberlin MVP weekend, so according to my high school counselors and every other teacher I have talked to about it I'm virtually guaranteed acceptance. The reasoning behind this is they have already seen my credentials and would not pay $400 to fly me in to see the school if they didn't REALLY want me. I'm trying not to get too big headed about it, but even the students who went there (99% of the people I met had been to the MVP weekend the year prior) said that you were pretty much guaranteed to get in. Also, the admissions counselor said that everyone that went pretty much had a 97% chance of getting in. So should I assume that I'm in pretty much?

If you are interested in Oberlin, let them know. My son didn't and got on the wait list. He was not invited to the mvp weekend. Congratulations!

what exactly is MVP weekend?

Its like an expense paid visitation weekend for minority students who are interested in applying to Oberlin and who are like recruited. I know they sent me an email personally asking that I apply for it and I got in. Ummm basically they pay for airfare, you stay in a dorm, attend classes, tours...etc, and get a feel for the college. I think it's their way of luring you in if they really think you have potential.

Wow, you are really lucky! I wish I had that oppertunity.
