HI, I am an international student
ITs been a dissapointing day. just got my score and its not too good
I have 640CR 700WR 700M
SAT2: MAth 2c 800, Physics 770
MY GPA is 3.8
I have 12 Olevel A grades --90% above
3 Alevel A's and a B in Physics--88%
I am top 10% in my class -- its the best and toughest school in the country

I dont wanna list my ecs but they are pretty good
I would give myself a 4 out of 5 in EC'S
4 out of 5 in my essay
i have 250 hours of volunteer work
Excellent recommendations
my course schedule would qualify as "very demanding"- a notch below the "most demanding"
I have also had a job in a newspaper as subeditor with almost 400 hours of work and i am getting a great recommendation from my employer

I am applying to the following schools according to prefrence for business

U PENN-wharton
MIT
CORNELL
WASHINGTON U IN ST LOUIS
NOTRE DAME
VILLANOVA
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND
SUNY-BINGHAMTON
MCGILL UNIVERSITY-CANADA
UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO-CANADA

Do i even stand a chance in my top 5 . i am applying for quite alot of aid as an international, around 20000 dollars? Please chance me
Thanks

U PENN-wharton: slight reach, but it's possible. perhaps ED here.
MIT: reach
CORNELL: fit/slight reach
WASHINGTON U IN ST LOUIS: fit
NOTRE DAME:fit
VILLANOVA: fit
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND: safety
SUNY-BINGHAMTON: safety
MCGILL UNIVERSITY-CANADA: safety
UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO-CANADA: safety, but business program = hard

U PENN-wharton: No chance
MIT: No chance
CORNELL: Rejected
WASHINGTON U IN ST LOUIS: Possible
NOTRE DAME:Possible
VILLANOVA: Match
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND: Match
SUNY-BINGHAMTON: Safety
MCGILL UNIVERSITY-CANADA: Possible for Desaultels
UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO-CANADA: Again, possible for Rotman.

ya I have no idea how anyone put slight reach for wharton? that is probably the hardest undergrad program to get into in the country, you will not get in there imo, cornell you might get into, wash u eh im not so sure about.

all i know is mit (and prolly all the other prestigious universities) only takes best of the best internationally and your sat scores won't cut it. but you never know.

If your school is truly the most prestigious school in (Canada I assume?)...

U PENN-wharton: Almost no chance
MIT: Same as Wharton
CORNELL: Reach
WASHINGTON U IN ST LOUIS: Reach
NOTRE DAME:Slight Reach
VILLANOVA: Safe Match
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND: Safety
SUNY-BINGHAMTON: Safety
MCGILL UNIVERSITY-CANADA: Match
UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO-CANADA: Safety

I'd suggest somewhere like a Michigan... any place between Nova and Notre Dame

ok so should i give my sat like a third time. I know if i push very very hard i might just make it to a 2100. will that suffice? i mean will i have a chance at wharton. i dont really care about MIT. wht would be the minimum score for a decent chance at wharton?

Rocafelton i agree most with your opinion on my list, but michigan soesnt gave aid to internationals or else would certainly apply there.

CNI you seem to have some good knowledge about canda. tell me whther B COM in finance is a good degree to pursue or not? i mean is the label of B COMMERCE repected in canada or USA?

BCOM is the same exact thing as a BBA... It should command the same respect as a top 15 B-school in america, but going to Rotman is NOT the same as goign to Wharton. If you're looking to eventually wind up in america, I'd choose Rotman. If you want to do international business, I'd choose Desaultels. Either way, they're great schools that you have a great chance at getting into Canadian schools.

exactly gaffe. even if initially wharton was "almost impossible", with aid its "IMPOSSIBLE". Can u suggest a minimum sat score you would need to get in?

Btw i am asian and male. i think asian would help :P

Why so CNI? Asians have the largest acceptance rates at wharton in terms of ethnicity. In fact there its a cliche to be either "Asian or Jewish". Anyway i don't think ethnicity matters a lot, if at all. i know people who have gone from my school in the past 5 years, but yeah most had better sat scores than me and worse grades.

Hey sinister i dont think that i just wanna go to UPenn for the sake of it. If i cant get my major then i would rather go to some other good college which offers me my preferred major. I dont think getting into an Ivy and another good school, say Notre DAme or Villanova, makes a hell of difference in terms of career prospects. that said I do think that going to wharton would be a dream come true for anybody..

And yeah if 2100 wont cut it and if it is not much different from a 2040 then i am not giving it. and CNI 2300 is not even in the picture, i am not one of those people who have been able to "crack the SAT".

quantum if you are talking about me then no i am not from UK, but from Pakistan. I said I was asian. What gave u the impression that I was from UK?

lol, uh, MIT accepts like 0.0000000000001% of international applicants. it's nearly impossible to get in. even out of the 20 international RSI kids they only accept like a couple. unless u cured cancer or something, it's impossible. plus being asian is a setback, esp. at wharton! there are so many qualified ppl, that's why the percentage is so high!! and so the standards are gonna be much higher
