Hello, I have my interview tomorrow for SS and I wanted to know what I should expect? (length, type of questions, difficult, etc.) Thanks

My interview for SS was quick and easy. Just relax and be honest. The main thing is to make a good impression because this is the same person that will be interviewing you later for you admission to the academy. With me, I wore shorts and a t-shirt because I met my ALO in the front of my school after wrestling practice, so it was pretty informal. However, yours may be different, and if you get a chance wear pants and a polo shirt, unless your ALO told you differently.

Know your answer to why you want to go to the Air Force Academy before you go to that interview.

how does formal wear look?

I wore formal wear to my interviews for a nomination. But all my interviews with my ALO were right after school (or practice) at school, so I couldn't change. I would say it depends on where and when your interview is.

you could even call your ALO up before and ask him what kind of attire you should wear. never hurts. of course you could always be safe and wear a nice button up shirt, dress slacks, and a tie. i don't think there is a need for a blazer. better be safe than sorry. also, he's going to be in his uniform so it would be okay if you did overdress.

nothing wrong with dressing professional :)

to be honest guys..i love dressing in my dress shirts and ties..

i would dress like that to school if it was considered in the "norm"..but, it is not in most public schools...people think you're a gaudy s.o.b.

Well, since I was in AFJROTC, I wore that uniform. It seemed to go over very well.

I wouldn't reccomend a uniform, just because JROTC/CAP and other programs don't really have a lot of respect here at the Academy...definitely DO NOT mention CAP/JROTC once you get here. That's just how it is.

IF there is no specification, wear a button-down and slacks at the least, as well as a tie if you are comfortable. If your ALO specifies, wear a blazer/sport coat. Don't do a full suit or tux unless you are 100% sure that's what he wants to see...very few do though.

I had it easy...my AF ALO interview was over the phone cause of a location mix-up in ALO assignments, my Navy ALO interviewed me right after I took the CFA (so I was in workout shorts and tshirt) and my Army ALO came to my house, so I didn't need to dress up too heavily.

Use your judgement, but be careful not to give the wrong impression.

I wouldn't go in a CAP/JROTC uniform. That seems a bit strange to me. (It might come across wrong.)

Don't be afraid to mention CAP or JROTC, just don't think (or act) like it makes you better or more knowledgeable. If you are proud of an achievement, there is no reason to hide it...just be sure not to look arrogant about it.

Yeah...sorry. My advice may have been a bit misconstrued...just don't act like you're more experienced because of CAP/JROTC.

I wore my AFJROTC uniform for my interview and my ALO told me that he liked that. I also was the only one in my area to wear a uniform to my Congressional interviews, and was told that i looked very professional by several former academy grads who made up the board. Uniform is not a bad thing, and it can help, I'm proof of that. But I agree you cant be overconfident because of that.

Good luck with your interview and I hope it goes well.

Definetly wear your uniform. That was been recommended to me countless times.

Even for your summer seminar interview? heh..

Yes. It's not something to debate. It's a simple fact that someone from the AFA that is interviewing you likes to see. If you don't want to wear it, then don't, it's not our choice.

To me, it is over doing it... but whatever. Like gglock said it's up to you.

I decided to just wear a nice shirt and tie (no jacket), I do have a CAP uniform but I am guessing that it is really hit or miss in regards to wearing uniforms for interviews. I decided that since I did not know his opinion on the subject I would go with regular interview clothes.

I know I dont usually post anymore-- doubt if many remeber me, but I am a four dig at the academy right now-- chem 2 gettin me down so I figured I'd post. The interview sealed the deal for me. my ALO asked me to leave and told my parents I was pretty much in... This was a huge relief. that being said, my best advice is to be absolutely honest-- look him in the eye-- drop the "Sir" but don't overdue it. That's it. Pre-thought out answers like why you want to come are great but no word for word... let him see how genuine you are and can be. The Air Force is a people buisness-- if you can deal with/interview people well you will go far once operational. good luck

Anyone remember some tough questions?

Benjo, where in NJ do you live? I'm up in Bergen County.
