Hi, I’m a junior in highschool. I want to attend the Air Force academy and I know the first step in the admissions process is taking the questionnaire. It says to fill it out after March 1st of junior year. So should I wait until I take the questionnaire before I contact my local alo?

sorry for the double post, but I was also wondering if anyone knows how much attending the summer seminar affects admission.

You can definitely contact your ALO before hand. I personally recommend it so you can get to know him/her and vice versa and possibly learn more about the admissions process and the Academy itself.

I second that. Getting into Summer Seminar means that your academics and resume look good. There are many other factors in the actual admissions process, but it is a good thing.

If nothing else, the thought that you applied will give admissions the idea that you are more interested in going to USAFA than one who did not apply.

I might add I didn't know Summer Seminar existed until after I could have gone. ;)

While getting accepted into summer seminar in no way guarantees an appointment the following year, it will definitely not hurt. Also, if you don't get accepted it will not hurt your chances for an appointment either. I went to summer seminar last summer and I found that it does greatly help with the nomination proccess. The nominating source will see that you are dedicated to going to the Academy and that you have put some thought into it. They want to nominate people that really have a strong desire to go to the Academy, not ones that are just applying because they thought it would be cool to get a free education. So in conclusion, applying for summer seminar will in no way hurt you. You may even have to interview with your ALO, which is good because it give you a good way to meet him/her and ask questions you may have. If you are serious about trying to go to summer seminar, and eventually trying to get an appointment, then stay on this website, as I have found this website and the wonderful people on it invaluable in my quest for an appointment.

I was wondering whether anyone here who has attended summer seminar before could give me information on the financial aid availible

Summer Seminar can help you if you go but it isn't a knock against you if you dont. Summer Seminar can hurt you if you go and get a poor evaluation. I didn't know about Air Force's until it was too late & didn't apply, but I am now sitting happily with a LOA, so it wasn't a factor for me.

Haven't heard much reason for people to sweat the evaluations at SS unless you have a really bad attitude. In which case you probably should consider other alternatives anyway.

I met my ALO at military day at school last march so we've been emailing eachother back and forth for almost a year. He's a great guy. I actually didn't know he wan an ALO until I asked him today haha. :)

Be very thankful you have an ALO who is interested and responsive. Many of them are very busy and will not spend much time with you other than what is required of them. Likewise, for those of you who try to make a good connection with your ALO and don't seem to be able to, don't take it personally. They may have several dozen others hoping for special attention.

Don't mean to be ignorant, but ALO?

Academy Liaison Officer. They are responsible for interviewing academy prospects and providing information to people interested in attending USAFA. A fine professional group of former or retired Air Force officers. Each one is responsible for applicants within a defined area. Some of them have to cover a lot of territory, while others work in a single urban center. Most cogent quote: "I can't get you into the academy, but I can probably keep you out of it." A word to the wise should be sufficient.

im in a large college and there is a fairly large AF ROTC here. if i was to apply do you guys think my ALO would be from there? i would really prefer that they would be on my campus.

Your ALO will probably be in the ROTC program at your school. Both my ALO and Blue and Gold officer were at my school, even though I'm a distance student and I live several hours away.
