Alot of questions pertaining to business and school

hi, i am going to be a freshmen soon and i need help deciding my major. My question is: what major will best prepare me for a career in investment banking. As i was googling jobs in the field, i came across undergraduate training programs as analysts for morgan stanley; will they recruit only particular majors or are they not looking for anything in specific? And does anyone know if their analyst for undergraduate program is only available for applicants that have already attained their Bachelors?

thanks,

does the name of where you got your degree from matter when it comes to business/ finance? my parents said no, but i think that just them trying to make me go to a cheap state college.

No, you don’t need to major in anything specific. It helps to major in econ, finance, or accounting simply because you’ll be exposed to relevant topics in your classes, but everything you need to know for the interviews can easily be picked up with various guides. It’s far more important to do well and get a good GPA. A 3.9 English major will always beat out a 2.5 finance major.

Yes, it matters tremendously what school you go to - this is perhaps the single most important part of breaking into finance. Banks only recruit from a handful of schools, and much more so from the very top (HYPSM + Wharton). If you’re serious about getting into banking, go to a target school.
